Local and Injured Word has been re ceived here that Miss Dorothey Vieaux of Pasadena, Cal., sus tained a severe injury to one of her hands, necessitating amputa tion of a finger. Miss Vieaux was well-known here when she was employed at the Groceteria lunch. Siie moved to Pasadena about a year ago. To Show Film Two show ings of the film, "Pioneering in Rehabilitation," sponsored by the Oregon Society for Crippled Children and Adults as part of the annual Easter Seal sale, are scheduled for April 5. Postpone Meeting Wagner Creek Parent-Teacher club has announced postponement of the luncheon and business meeting scheduled for Friday, April 7, at the Waltermlre home. The event has been postponed due to the death of Wayne Bradley, a mem ber of the club. Notification of a new date for the meeting will be made by the club secretary, it was stated. Obituary ELLENA MAE BARNETT Ellena Mae Barnett. 81, 519 South Central avenue, who lived most of her life at Kerby, and who was the widow of Jesse B. Barnett. passed away in a local hospital Monday. Funeral services are tentative ly set for 10 a. m. Thursday at the Chapel mortuary, with inter ment to be made in the IOOF cemetery at Kerby at 2:30 p. m. Families Evacuate Homes in Astoria Astoria, Ore., Apr. 4 (U.R) Three families evacuated their homes at the foot of Astoria's Irving street slide yesterday when city engineers became alarmed at increasing rate of the moving hill. Engineers were fearful the slide would develop into an ava lanche. The hill, loosened by week-end rains, moved 17 feet and forced halt to attempts to move six oth er homes in the path of the slid ing earth. Evacuating their homes were Robert Mclntyre. Internationalization Of Jerusalem Okayed Geneva, Switzerland. Apr. 4 (U.R) The United Nations trus teeship council today adopted a statute internationalizing the en tire Jerusalem area. The vote was 9 to 0. with the United States and Great Britain abstaining. Russia is boycotting this session of the council. The statute provides for plac ing the entire municipality of Jerusalem and its surrounding towns and villages under UN control. The council adopted by a vote of 10 to 0, with Britain abstain ing, a resolution presented by the United States, Australia, Bel gium and the Philippines. It asks the council chairman to forward the text of statute to Israel and Hashemite Jordan, whose armies occupy Jerusalem, and request their "full cooperation." Iowa Murder Trial Is Given to Jury Iowa City, la-, Apr. 4 (U.R) The murder trial of Robert Bed nasek was given to a jury today with instructions to weigh care fully his story of his campus sweetheart's death. White-haired District Judge James P. Gaffncy gave the case to a small-town jury of eight men and four women at 10:02 a.m. (CST). He said if they found the handsome University of Iowa psychology student guilty of first degree murder, it would be up to them to fix the penalty of a life term or death by hanging. Previously, the state in a sur prise move in its closing argu ments had demanded the death penalty. Civil Suit Opened in Circuit Court Here J The case of George A. Schill er versus James C. and Grace Brodie and the United States N a t io n a 1 bank went before Judge H. K. Hanna in circuit court today. The plaintiff claims the Bro dies misrepresented the volume of business of the Southern Ore gon Bearing Sales company at the time he contracted for the purchase of the business. Schil ler asks that the contract be re scinded and also wants the court to restore to him $20,336.91 with interest from December 1948. plus $600 with interest from April, 1949. Attorney for Schulcr la Hugh Collins and the Brodies have re tained Rawles Moore to handle their case. 'Best of Breed' Tag Awarded Local Dog Southern Oregon Kennel club was well represented at the Lions' Kennel club dog show held April 1 and 2 at Salem, club officers reported today. Mr. and Mrs. F. E. White's Bedlington terrier "Rumplcstilt zkin O' the Fold" was judged "best of breed" over a good sized entry. He went on to win the terrier group, nosing out all other terriers to compete for "best in show." Rumplestiltzkin is commonly called "Riki" by the White fam ily. S- circuit court of appeals today upheld the convic tion and two-year sentence ol Edward F. Prichard Jr., 35, for vote fraud. Prichard, former general coun sel for the democratic national committee and one-time promi nent figure in the new deal, was convicted bv a iurv for vote fraud in the 1948 general elec tion in Bourbon county, Ky., last July. He was sentenced to two years imprisonment by Judge H. Church Ford of the U. S. district court, Lexington, Ky. He was la ter released on bond, pending the outcome of the appeal- Prichard was indicted on a charge of forging ballots. Testimony Opens in Suit Again UAL Scranton, Pa., Apr. 4 (U.R) Testimony began today In the $2,000,000 suit filed in federal court against United Airlines by the estate of Showman Earl Car roll. Carroll was one of 42 persons killed when a United Airlines plane crashed at Mt. Carmel, Pa. last June. Another victim was Beryl Wallace, a leading lady in many Carroll productions. Six women and six men have been selected by the Jury. Judge Albert Watson said the case will last three to four weeks. Hood River, Ore., Apr .4 (U.R) The Hood River city coun cil last night voted to put the city on daylight saving time be ginning at 2 a.m. April 30. Pollock was sen tenced to four years in the stata penitentiary by Circuit Jud'je H. K. hanna yesterday afler lie had pleaded guilty on a district attorney's information charainM him with larceny of a power saw. District Attorney Georse Neilson said Pollock had a pre vious criminal record and is now on parole. Judge Hanna also sentenced Richard L.
