Gaskie said he was an unem ployed furniture salesman look hit! for a job. After 18 hours of tests, questions, more tests, and more questions, the employment service agreed that Gaskie, al though he said he was an unem ployed furniture salesman, should take up newspaper work, or something much like it. Gaskie, it turned out. was a reporter for the Denver Rocky Mountain News, getting a story on how the employment service works. (U.R) Davey tree ex perts were asked to solve the problem of how a deer could get its entire head embedded in a tree 18',-s feet from the ground. The mystery was posed by H. W. Suess, of Meeker, Col., who sent photographs of part of an aspen trunk, with an antler coming out on one side and verte brae and base of skull on the other. X-rays showed the skull, jaw bones and teeth embedded on the inside. Suess wrote that he cut the oddity fro ma beaver-felled tree. Sleautht Ponder Problem The tree sleuths pondered how the animal could get so high and be held so securely against the tree for 25 to 35 years, the time it would take for complete growth around the head. The only logical answer, Davey expert W. C. Lauck said, is that hunters strung the deer high in the tree for safety and neglected to return for their prize. If the animal were on the ground when it made contact with the tree, the head still would be impaled the same dis tance from the ground, no matter how tall the tree grew.
