Meeting Slated To Form Booster Club A meeting to form a Medford uoosler club for organized sup port of local athletic teams hua been culled for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.. It was announced yes terday. The meeting will be held in (he No. 2 sample room at the Juckson hotel and anyone in terested in participation in a booster flub has been inviled to attend. Jerry Donovan, president nf the class D Far West Basvball league, to which the Medford Hogues belong, will be present to aid in forming the organiza tion. Donovan is said to have considerable experience with Hulls nf the kind desired here and Is making the trip from his headiiuartera in San Francisco especially to aid the program. Ilegular meetings will be held after the club la organized. It was slated, at which time players, coaches and managers nf various athletic teams will address the group, giving them the "Inside" on the particular sport. It is the plan of those instru mental In forming the group that the club devote Its booster ef forts to the sport which happens to be in season at a particular lime. Famous Gymnasts To Show in City Thirty-two members of the famous Danish Gymnastics team will appear at Medford high school's gymnasium Tuesday evening, April 11, l.ee Ragsdale of the school staff announced Saturday, Sixteen young women and as many young men are on the squad. Medford will be one of several stops the team will make in Ore gon and California while visiting the United States, Hagsdale said. The two hour-long exhibition will Include gymnastics, folk dancing and acrobatics. Proceeds from the events af ter expenses will go toward the high school athletic fund, he skated. NOTICE WE HAVE STARTED OUR PHAL' Phone 2-6687 Summer Baseball School Planned For Local Boys Plans for the annual Summer Baseball school sponsored by the Medford school department were announced Saturday by Alex McDonald who has been in charge since the plan started about three years ago. No dates have been set but the school usually sturts late In June. This year McDonald will be assisted by Bob Newland and Frank Roelandt with sessions be ing held as in the past at the senior high school ball field. . Boys are reminded that there Is no charge to attend the school and that any youth from eight or nine to 14 or 16 years of age may attend. While it is called a "baseball school," In reality It is more of a play period for three of the four days each week it is conducted. Those attending learn funda mentals, rules and other tricks to the game one day and spend the other three practicing them Games are arranged between teams of relatively the same age boys here in Medford and when possible with out-of-town teams. Liliard Seeks WallickDuel Mack Liliard was beating the bushes yesterday in search of an opponent for tough Lee Walllck for the armory wrestling card Thursday night. Wallick knocked Tough Tony Ross unconscious last week with his vicious pile driver and has gained a reputation throughout the northwest for his deadly maneuver as well as his unus ually rought stuff. Liliard said he figured Frank Stojack is the only one out of those on last week's card who la capable of giving the Wisconsin tough guy a good bout but Sto jack hummed and hawed when Liliard propositioned him on the match. The Great Atlas, now perform ing in Washington, has refused to return to Medford as long as there is any possibility of having to meet Walllck and most of the better boys on the circuit are shunning the big guy. However, the promoter said he was confident he would come up with a suitable foe and said he would have two other out standing matches for his regular Thursday night show. Two doubles and a pair of singles events for men and the same for women will be rolled at the Medford Bowling lanes to day starting at 10 a.m. in the second day of the Southern Ore gon Bowling tournament's first week-end of competition. A doubles team consisting of Barnwell and Tamney from Med ford will take part in the 10 a.m. women'! competition along with five teams from Roseburg Women's singles events will fol low. Noon Ev.nl Listed At noon the first rncn's doubles event is scheduled with McGraw of Medford teaming with Watson (Eureka) in ori? match. The other teams com peting will be from Roseburg and Eureka. McGraw will also be in the singles event slated for 1 p.m. No Medford men are listed for the doubles events slated to be gin at 2 p.m. today or in the singles to start at 3 p.m. Those taking part in these will be from Roseburg and Crescent City. Starting at 4 p.m. today will be another doubles event for women with five from Medford taking part. The singles for women will follow starting about 5 p.m. Doubles T.ams Named Teaming up in the doubles for this time will be Sacchi and Wil lett, McCall and Ludwlg, Damon and Little, Hagen and Klatt, and Virtue and Gardner. The same ladies will also compete in the singles events that follow. The tournament will continue next week-end and the week-end of April 13 and 16. Rogue River Nine Winner Rogue River joined the ranks of the winners in the county class B baseball race as it opened its 1950 season with an easy 22 to 9 victory over St. Mary's (Medford) on the Chieftains' field Friday but only after put ting down a seventh-inning Cru sader rally. St. Mary's put together a homcrun by Sakradia, triple by Long and doubles by Dugan and Murray to help sock home seven runs for the Crusaders in that final Inning. Sowl.s Fans 12 Sowles, on the mound for Rogue River, struck out 12 men and kept things pretty well un der control until the final stan za. The Chiefs scored two in the first, nine in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and eight In the sixth. Driscoll, Kelly and Glcason did the hurling for the Crusad ers with Long doing the catching chores. Glen Depuy blasted out a dou ble and Carter a tripje to help Rogue River. r 7 Redskins Top Loggers Nine Jacksonville, Apr. 1 Jack sonville high today pointed to its first county class B confer ence baseball victory of the sea son after edging Butte Falls in a wild-scoring game 14 to 12 on the Butte Falls diamond. The Redskins tallied five runs each in the fifth and sixth In nings Friday afternoon to help gain the decision. Pitcher Paul Hardy fanned the three Butte Falls men to face him in the sev enth and last inning to assure the victory. Darwin Moore hurling all the game for the Loggers, fanned 10 Jacksonville boys but gave up 10 hits. Many errors by both teams helped In the scoring. Jer ry Pawlowskl pitched three In nings, Don Clay one and Hardy three for J'ville. Butte Falls got seven hits. Whit. Hits Hom.run White got the only homerun of the game, a blast in the first inning for Butte Falls with one on base. Greenamaer, Hardy and Thom as each clouted two hits in four trips to lead the Jacksonville batting. Casey's two for three led Butte Falls in hitting. Next week Friday Jackson ville plays at Talent and Butte Falls will be host to St. Mary's (Medford). Rogues Slate More Games Three more spring training practice games for the Medford Rogues (Nuggets) were an nounced Saturday by Business Manager Mel Carpenter as he also recealed that about a dozen candidates for the pro club will leave Thursday for Santa Maria, Cal. camp. The Rogues will play Marys ville at Marysville Annl 2". against Klamath Falls at Lodi,' Cal., April 23 and against Reno. Nev.. at Yuba City. Cal-, April 24. Other games include ones against Visalia and Santa Bar bara college. All but Visalia and the college teams are members of the Far West Baseball league as are the Rogues. !
