FOUR MEDFORD (OREGON) Month Of March Opens New Season For Women Golfers The month of March brought a resumption of activities for the women'! organization of the Rogue Valley Country club. Thursday is set aside as women's day at the club, and in addition to the weekly golfing, on the first Thursday of each month the members of the group have luncheon together at noon. Mrs. Robert Shepherd, general chairman of the group, points out that any woman golfer of the country club, whether or not a member of the women's organ ization, is welcome to play on that day. Play begins at 1 p. m. and the luncheons arc at 12 noon. The season opens in March and ends In November, the group having a dinner that month. Mrs. Jack Eidswick is vice general chairman, Mrs. Ralph D. Udell is secretary of the group and Mrs. Victor Sether is treas urer. Miss Myrna Hackert Honored With Shower; ' To Wed Donald Harris Jacksonville Miss Myrna Hackert of Jacksonville was the honored guest at a surprise bri dal snower given oy ner cousin. Miss Anita Heckert, March in Annrinriate lames were played with prizes being won by Miss Hackert and Miss Pauline Hardv. Following presentation of gifts, the bride doll which formed the table centerpiece was also given to Miss Hackert as a souvenir of the happy occasion. Refreshments were served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Otto Heckert, Mrs. Albert Hackert and Mrs. Paul Godward. Others attending were the Misses Bar bara Tavlor, Wilma Mclntyre, Janet Tuttle, Pauline Hardy, Freda Gravelle, Fern Rasmussen, Connie Frohs, Enid McKee, Lor etta Clay and Mrs. Don Stoner. Miss Hackert, an employee of the U. S. National bank, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hackert of Jacksonville. She is the bride-elect of Donald Harris, on of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Harris of Myrtle Point, Ore., formerly of Jacksonville. Their marriage will be an event of April 9. Sorority Group Holds Election Of Officers; Formal Banquet Planned Mrs. Larry Carson was elected president of Beta Sigma Phi sorority at a meeting of the group Thursday. Mrs. William Hartman was elected vice-president; Mrs. Nnrva Hildman, treas urer; Miss Florence Erbes, cor responding secretary, and Mrs. Donovan Foster, recording sec retary. The new officers will be Installed at the first meeting of the sorority in May. During the meeting plans were made to hold a formal ban quet in observance of Founders' day April 30. Details of the din ner arc to be handled by the social committee including Mrs. Carson, Miss Jean Poland, Mrs. Charles Ely, Mrs. Vern Whitlntch and Mrs. Cecil Davis. Miss Belly Squires, guest speaker, gave a talk on ceramics. Hostesses for the evening were Miss Garria Baker and Mrs. Fos ter Next meeting of the group will be April 6. Drummonds Return From Trip South Dr. and Mrs. C. I. Dramniond and son, David, returned a week ago Saturday from a motor trip to California points and into Tia Juana, Mexico. Children's Fashion Show Being Planned; Academy To Benefit St. Ann's Altar society of the Sacred Heart parish are making plans for an Easter chick fashion show which will be entirely for the 'small fry, Sunday after noon, April 2 in St. Mary's acad emy gymnasium. The very young models will parade Easter attire on a plat form built to resemble a cracked Easter egg, and many youthful properties will be used to accent the theme. Students of the academy will furnish entertainment during the show and refreshments will be served. Tickets may be pur chased at the door and the public is cordially Invited to attend. Proceeds will benefit the aca demy building fund. Mrs. R. A. Mrs. Sher man went to San Francisco to at tend the wedding. The bridegroom is a graduate of Medford high school and dur ing the war was with the naval transport service. Former Jackie Flynn Visits Parents Here Mrs. Ed Allworth and son, Clark, of Oswego. Ore., will leave for their home tomorrow after spending a few days here with Mrs. Allworth s parents. Mayor and Mrs. Diamond Flynn. Mrs. Flynn will accompany them home and will spend a few days in the north. Friday morning Mrs. Larrv Scharie Jr. entertained at a small breakfast for Mrs. Allworth. who is the former Jackie Flynn. MAIN Civic Music Group To Hear Concert By Violinist, Wife Last concert of the season for the Jackson County Civic Music association will be given April 8 by Benno Rabinof, noted vio linist, and his wife, Sylvia Rab inof. pianist and composer. Rabinof. who studied with the famous violin teacher, Leo pold Auer, is rated as one of the nation's leading violinists. He has played with most of the country's large symphony or chestras, has made 10 trans-continental tours and has played in most of the leading cities of Europe. His wife, while officially list ed as accompanist for her hus band, is said to be such an out standing musician that many re viewers speak of the two as hav ing given a joint recital. The artist should not be con fused with another violinist, Rubinoff, who has played In Med ford in the past. Miss LaRose Bowman Honored At Shower; To Wed This Summer Miss LaRose Bowman, who makes her home with her siiter, Mrs. Evelyn Dickenson of 333 Haven street, was honored with a bridal shower Monday nigni. Miss Bowman is home from Ore gon State college for spring vaca tion. Mrs. John Williams and Mrs. Louis Putnam were hostesses for the shower, given at the Dicken son home. Schempp, 305 Laurel street, who with Mr. Schempp, will leave by plane Wednesday to begin an ex tended European trip. Others named to office were Miss Billie Lyons, vice-president; Miss Marilyn Nickle, treasurer; Miss Donna Wall, recording sec retary and Miss Joy Finch, cor responding secretary. The retiring officers are Miss Bertha McCallister, president; Miss Finch, vice-president; Miss Lyons, treasurer and Miss Walk er, recording secretary. The retiring advisors, Mrs. Ryder Berg and Mrs. Willard Sloper, were given a surprise handkerchief shower and pre sented with corsages from the sorority. Oregon Beta chapter of Mu Phi Mu sorority was founded in Medford a year ago and was the lirst chapter of the national sorority to be established in Oregon. Medford Sojourners' Guest Day Has Large Attendance Thursday Aoout iuu members, prospec tive members and guests attend ed the semi-annual guest day party given by Medford Sojourn ers club Thursday at the YMCA. Adopting the decorative theme from spring and the Easter sea son, hostesses set 25 individual tables. Each table was centered with a potted begonia plant and a small white alyssum, potted in colored egg shells, was placed at each setting. Begonias were awarded to first prize winners at each table and the smaller flowers were given as favors to the guests. Mrs. Clifford Howard and Mrs. Clay Lee, immediate past presi dents, presided at the buffet table. An Easter tree, loaned by Severson Candy shops, formed a centerpiece for the buffet table. A short business meeting pre ceded introductions of guests and prospective members. About 40 guests were present and were distinguished by corsages of aca cia and multicolored ribbons. Mrs. J. S. Goodwin and Mrs. V. B. Gahlen were welcomed as new members. Bridge, pinochle and canasta were played during the after noon. Mrs. A. is. neming ana Mrs. Frank Robertson received individual prizes. Ann Court Holds Initiation For Class; Grand Officers Here Roxy Ann court UD, Order of the Amaranth, initiated a large class into the lodge at a regular meeting Wednesday evening in the Odd Fellows hall. Bride-To-Be Honored With Shower Monday; Rites To Be Saturday Mrs. T- E. Popham and Mrs. Richard D. Werner were hos tesses Monday evening for a shower which honored Miss Tresa MeMannis. Miss McMan nis and Ralph J. Matlack are to be married Saturday April 1, at the First Christian church. The party was at Mrs. Pop ham's home on Pierce road, and Miss MeMannis was presented a shower of miscellaneous gifts for her new home. The gifts were presented in an umbrella of bright yellow, and the spring theme was used for table decora tions.
