Others elected to office were nirs. nicuora Hood, vice- president; Mrs. A. W. Servold, secretary; Mrs. Paul Thompson, treasurer. Installation and appointment of committees will be held at the May meeting. Speaker of the evening was H. P. Jewett, superintendent of consolidated district 6. He gave some "do's and don'ts" which he stated would make, for hap pier cooperation between parents and teachers. He also gave sug gestions for strengthening the schools, suggested ways in which they might be of greater service to the community, and ideas for courses which would give stu dents an education better suited to thci. needs. Refreshments were served in the cafeteria by Mrs. Ford Jones and Mrs. Lester Parker. Ten per cent of Alaska's white citizens are college graduates, compared with 4.5 per cent in continental United States. Schulz, of Med ford, royal lady katydid; Mrs, Fred Laurence of Medford, ma jestic assistant chief of staff; Mrs. Ted Hopkins, Rogue River, royal lady firefly; Mrs. Karl Licklider of Grants Pass, royal trustee; and Mrs. Alathea Tur ner, Grants Pass, royal lady june bug. Mrs. Turner is also lady gold bug of gladiolus circle. Also attending were Mrs. Eleanor Sawyer, Shady Cove, Mrs. Jack Stewart, Rogue River, and Mrs. Con Rost, Ashland, of the royal degree team; and Mrs. Helen Johnston, Medford, royal hospital chairman. While making her official visit to the lodge here, Mrs. Dewey also visited Camn White domi ciliary center. She was escorted through the center by Paul Hat- ton, center manager, ana jonn Kelly, director of special serv ices. It was Mrs. Dewey s ursi visit to the camD. The visitor praised the circles for their work at the center. Mrs. Geneva Hitt was initiat ed into the circle during the meeting. Mrs. Laurence, Mrs. Sawyer and Mrs. Lillian Hukill served a dutch lunch to lady bugs and cooties. The affair was also in observ ance of the circle's anniversary which was March 17. St. Pat rick's day decorations were used with flower arrangements centering the tables. An anni versary cake was served. The Camp White trio, made up of Mr. Kelly, Mr. Presnell and Franklin Girard entertained with a program of songs. They dedicated one selection to Mrs. Dewey. A gift was also present ed the visitor by circle mem bers. Others attending from Grants Pass circle were Mrs. Pat Tur ner; Mrs. Gladys Fagean, Mrs. Mabel Drinkwater, Mrs. Lor raine Kell and Mrs. Beatrice Eastwood. Relatives Visiting At Dunford Home Mrs. Grace Palmer, Portland, and Mrs. Nettie Boyd, Los An geles, arrived Friday evening to visit Mr. and Mrs. Ike Dunford, Bellinger road at Minear lane. Mrs. Palmer, a cousin to Mrs. Dunford, will leave for home Monday. Mrs. Nettie Boyd, Mrs. Dunford's sister, plans to remain for about a month. Golden "Link Class To Meet On Thursday A business and social meeting will be held by Golden Link Bible class members of First Baptist church Thursday, March 23. The meeting will be in the home of Mrs. Ernest Conrad, 1523 East McAndrews road and will begin at 2 p.m. Mrs. Joe Hibbard will be hostess. About 148,765 persons will be employed throughout the United States to collect information for the 1950 census of poplation, housing and agriculture, the U.S. department of commerce says. Parent-Teacher Group Entertained By Chorus; Techniques Explained Medford Junior High School Parent-Teacher association mem bers were entertained by the girls' chorus of the school at a meeting of the association Thurs day. The chorus, numbering about 100 in membership, is un der the direction of Ray Uewis. Mrs. J. A. McDougall, presi dent, announced appointment ot the committee which will nomi nate officers for the coming year. Members of the committee are Mrs. R. D. Church, Mrs. C. Den man and Glenn Linn. Mrs. Dick Bernard announced that open house would be held at the high school Wednesday, April 19 at 8 p.m. Invitations to attend have been extended to all parents of Junior high school children. Mr. Linn, principal of the! school, was m eharge of the evening's program and explained the use of audio visual materials in the school program. He was assisted by Don Darneille who demonstrated the school's tape recorder and radio. Mrs. mith McCollister demonstrated the opaque projector, Mrs. Dorothy Sneed, strip film and Darrell Davis .sound film. In Mr. Linn's demonstration he stated that a few years ago the word "communication" would have implied the use of oral and visual activities restricted to the human voice and printed page, Today, communication has been appluied to include a wide range of media. Motion pictures, photographs, snaes ana other forms ot pictor ial communication have given us new tools with which to trans mit information more effective ly, he stated. Radio has con densed and distributed the events of the world today making such events the business of every one, Mr. Linn stated. The techniques and materials of mass, communi cation are at our disposal. Their effectiveness cannot be disputed. There is no longer only one way of teaching in a school situation. What we are after he stated, is the best and most efficient way of communicating ideas. Mr. Linn added that the place for audio visual materials in tne school is one of adaption, exper imentation, effective utilization, and evaluation. The various media he stated have been conceived to perform certain functions and meet cer tain needs. The speaker also listed equip ment now being used at junior high school, two 16 mm sound movie projectors, one 2x2 slide and strip film projector, two 4 x 4 slide and opaque projectors called "Belopticans," three rec ord players, one radio phono graph, one wire recorder, one tape recorder and radio, a pub lic address system and maps, globes, pictures and other neces sary equipment. Following the meeting, re freshments were served by par ents from home room 55, Mrs. Mildred Rogers, teacher; and from room 41, Mrs. Ethel Thomp son, teacher. Californians Visit Mrs. Alda Riley of Sonora, Cal., is visiting her sister, Mrs. Frances Taylor. 108 Newtown street. Mrs. Riley plans to re main with her sister for several weeks. Medford Woman Acts As Installing Usher Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Wilson have returned from Roseburg. where Mrs. Wilson was invited to act as installing usher for the first installation services of the Degree of Honor lodge there. Also attending the ceremonies were Mrs. Ethel Lindholm Hiatt, Portland, national treasurer, and Mrs. Minta Hess, Portland, state officer. A number of Grants Pass Degree of Honor members also attended. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson spent Sat urday on the North Umpqua riv er where they had been over night guests of Mrs. Johnson Freeman and daughter Barbara. They viewed new road construc tion work there where an histor ic covered bridge across the Umpqua river is being removed to be replaced by a modern steel structure. Home From Trip Mr. and Mrs. Michael Beck. Old Stage road, recently return ed from Chicago where Mr. Beck attended a meeting of American bakery engineers. The Becks motored to Boise, Ida., where they were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Glen Jones. From there the two men continued .to Chi cago by plane, and the two wom en made the trip by train. Plan Party Mistletoe club members of the Royal Neighbors of America will meet Wednesday, March 22, for a public card party in the Girls' Community club. Dessert will be served, followed by the cards. Pitt Re bekah lodge members were enter tained Wednesday by a group of pupils of Miss Helen Blumen stein. The program included a vocal solo, Hawaiian dance, tap dances and baton twirling. Mrs. Ralph Burkhart reported on the Gold Hill meeting of Northwest Oddfellow association and announced next meeting of the group will be in Kerby, April 16 at 2 p. m. Members discussed plans for choosing delegates who will at tend a convention of the grand lodge at Astoria in May. Mrs. L. C. Johnson attended the meet ing following a long absence and Mrs. Mary Ottosen of Julietta, la. was a visitor. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Robert Pfoff, Mrs. Albert Trautman and Mrs. Vern Kight. Mobile, Ala:, was the first cap ital of all the French possessions in America. Oak Grove Association Will Meet On Monday; Elections To Be Held Oak Grove Parent-Teachers as sociation members will meet on Monday, March 20 in the cafe teria at 8 p.m. All patrons in the community are urged by officers to attend the meeting as busi ness of importance to the com munity will be discussed. Election of officers will also be held. Refreshments will be served at close fo the meeting. Rebekah Lodge Plans Social Event Monday Olive Rebekah lodge membors will hold a social evening fol lowing their regular ..meeting Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the IOOF hall.
