Knife And Fork Club Members Will Hear Fallon Speak Friday Knife and Fork club members are promised rare treat when Carlo! Fallon speaks to the group In the Rogue Valley Coun try club Friday evening, March 17. He will tell vividly of the mo tives, hopes and aspirations of the founders of Latin American republics and -though he is not billed as a humorous speaker he is said to use both wit and hu mor. A native Colombian, he helps us understand a little better our neighbors to the south and plays an important role in helping all nations of the Americas present a united front against the com mon enemy who would destroy us. Though Colombian by birth, Fallon is descended from Irish forbears and fittingly enough he will speak, here on St. Pat rick's day. He has recently returned from a five-month trade survey in South America. A citizen of this country, he makes his home in Washington, D.C. Degree Of Honor Degree of Honor will hold initiation Tuesday, March 15 in Knights of Pythias building at 8 p.m. All officers are asked to wear formals. The bride was given in mar riage by her father and Miss Enid McKee accompanied by Mrs. C. L. Robinson, furnished the wedding music. The bride's gown of white marquisette with bodice em broidered in satin and beads, was fashioned with a full train. Her veil, of fingertip length, was formed from a crown of beads and seed pearls. The gown had first been worn by the bride's aunt, Mrs. Charles Judd of San ger, Cal. For her flowers, the bride car- ried an orchid with white ear- Mrs. Craig, Corning, Cal., cou nations. sins; Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Harris, Miss McKee, maid of honor, wore a green taffeta dress and carried a nosegay of white and pink carnations. Miss Myrna Hackert, Jackson ville, and Miss Trudy 'Harris, coUsin of the bride from Murphy, served as bridesmaids and wore yellow net gowns over satin and carried nosegays of pink and white carnations. Lozie Dawn Senter of Murphy, was flower girl and she wore a clotted Swiss gown. Jimmy and Jerry Mitchelmore, twin sons of tne Kev. and Mrs. Mitchelmore, were double ring-bearers. E. M. Anderson of Medford. the groom's brother, acted as best man and ushers were Don Harris of Jacksonville, brother of the bride, and Gene Camp- Dell. Jacksonville. The bride's mother wore a two-piece black crepe dress and her corsage was of white carna tions. A gray two-piece dress was worn by the . bridegroom's mother and her corsage was white carnations. Harris Jr., another sister-in- District Meeting Set By Woodcraft Lodges; Phoenix Group To Meet Neighbors of Woodcraft lodge will meet Saturday, March 18, in the IOOF hall in Medford, for a "pep" meeting. There will be district officers and grand of ficers present. Initiation ceremo nies will also be held. Phoenix and Ashland lodges will assist entertain at this dis trict meeting. Phoenix Neighbors of Wood craft members will hold a small business meeting Thursday, March 16, to prepare for instal lations during the coming month. Mrs. George Drake and Mrs. L. O. Plans for the annual spring frolic of Jackson school to be held Friday, March 24, will in clude many new features, ac cording to executive committee members of the group who met during the week. Mrs. C. S. Jacobsen, general chairman of the event, an nounced that a dinner would open the frolic, to be followed by a school pageant and carnival. Many of the father's of the organization are helping with the plans. Mrs. Jack White, general chairman for the dinner, will be assisted by Mrs. Marion Smith and Mrs. Frank Harden as co chairmen. ' : Mrs. Shirley Mitchell of the school's faculty is In charge of concessions. Kenneth Nolte, Clar ence Zurcher and R(ley Themson are heading the men's participa tion in concession work. Mrs. Maynard 'Putney, treas urer of the group, is chairman of ticket sales. Others assisting in the plans are H. W. Guslin, school principal; Mrs. Precla Medley of the faculty; Mrs. Dick Kay, Mrs. E. H. Pathmann, Mrs. Frank Moench and Mrs. Byron Griffiths. Following the executive meet ing Prof. Lawrence Butler of Southern Oregon college, and Mr. Gustin, presented the film. "Human Growth." A number of guests from other Medford schools were present to view the film. Vernon Tliorne. eltv sunerln- tendent; is slated to speak to the group. Anniversary Marked At Family Gathering By Gold Hill Couple Gold Hill Mr. and Mrs. Rob ert E. Cook of this city celebrated jheir golden wedding anniver sary, Tuesday, March 7, with open house to friends and rela tives who called during the aft ernoon and evening. Their daughter, Mrs. Floyd Lance, and their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Alva Cook, were hostesses assisted by Mrs. Roy Pedersen and Mrs. Joe Hope, granddaughters of the couple. Robert E. Cook and Miss Ada Bottoms were married at Fort Jones on March 7, 1900, and the couple lived there several years and both their children were born there. From Fort Jones they moved to Medford, then to Foots Creek where they had their home many years. During that time Mr. Cook mined on Foots Creek and is now mining there after being employed several years at the cement plant and in other work. Their two children, Alva E. Cook and Mrs. Catherine Lance live in Gold Hill. They have five grandchildren, Mrs. Ruth Hope of Medford, Mrs. Maxine Peder sen of Gold Hill; Mrs. Jewell Miller of Ashland, and Bobby Lance of this city, and Mrs. Alvajean McCormick of Ontario, California, who could not be at the reception. There are four great grandchildren, Lance Hope, Jean Marie Pedersen, Lonnie Miller and Marlcne McCormick. Of special interest were out of town guests, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Elliott of Redding. Calif ornia, who were also celebrating their forty-seventh anniversary March 7. Mrs. Elliott is a sister of Mr. Cook, and the couples have spent several wedding anni versaries together. Mrs. Jack Maasden of Medford was anoth er out of town guest. She is a sister of Mr. Elliott. , Gifts and congratulatory cards were received from the many friends. Medford Couple Back From Southern Trip Among Medford residents to return recently from mid-winter vacations are the Mark A. Goldys. Leaving here in mid January, the couple went by the southern route to Florida where they spent some time in St. Petersburg and Fort Lauderdale. They also visited Cypress Gar dens and Silver Springs. . While in St. Petersburg they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Mau rice Spatz from here, who were alen i.apnt irtntn a thrp. On the couple's return they stopped in New Orleans to see the Mardi Gras and spent some time with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Leverette and Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Scottish Rite Women Will Hold Election Election of officers will be held at the regular meeting of Scottish Rite Women's club Monday, March 13 at 8 p.m. in the Masonic temple. More Events Planned In addition to teas already re ported in observance of the thirty-eighth anniversary of Girl scouting, Mrs. Harvey Robert son's fifth grade troop enter tained their mothers at tea in Roosevelt school Tuesday. The tea was prepared and served by the girls and was their lmai project in completing work on hostess badges. Mrs. H, B. Janes, supervisor of Roosevelt school cafeteria, was presented dish towels which had been made by the 16 troop members. Work ing of the tea towels was cred ited to their homemaking badges. During the tea, troop members entertained with folk dance dem onstration and games. Mrs. N. B. Bender, assistant troop leader, assisted Mrs. Robertson. On Thursday, Girl scouts of Applegate school entertained Murphy Girl scouts with movies on conservation. Refreshments were served following the mov ies. Scheduled for Thursday, March 16, junior high school and senior high school neighborhood under Mrs. Ted Hornschuch, neighborhood chairman, will hold a Juliette Low tea in the Girls' Community club immedi ately after school. In charge of refreshments are Mrs. Michele Rossi, assisted by Mrs. T. R. Florey. Mrs. C. B. Collins will tell the story of Juliette Low and Girl scouting. Preceding the tea, rep resentative leaders will meet to plan a round-table discussion to be held at annual area council meeting in Ashland, March 22. Grants Pass district will con duct a Brownie round table and Medford district will have charge of intermediate, junior, and sen ior high school round tables. Special topics to be covered in the discussions are training, out-of-doors, and program. Eight Charter Members Attend Club Meeting; Group To Tie Quiff Past Noble Grands' club of Olive Rebekah lodge met Thurs day in the Girls' Community club. Mrs. William Dyer pre sided in absence of Mrs. Lewis Thompson, president. Plans were made for an all day meeting Wednesday, March 15 in home of Mrs. J. A. Wicker, 809 Adams lane, to tie a quilt. A covered dish luncheon is to be served. Mrs. Merle Ivie was ap pointed press correspondent. Games were played with Mrs. A. H. Hansen and Mrs. Vivian Meyer in charge. Fourteen past presidents of the group were seated at a table decorated in the St. Patrick's day theme. Re freshments were served by Mrs. Carrie Milnes and Mrs. Dyer, co-chairmen and their commit tee. Eight of the charter members who organized the club in 1924 were present. Two visitors also attended, a Mrs. Oaks from Can ada, and Mrs. Mary Foster, Cen tral Point. Square Dancing, Cards To Be Featured Friday By West Side Extension West Side Home Extension unit will hold a community square dance and canasta party in the school gymnasium Friday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m. Anyone in the community k Invited and each family is asked to take a cake or sandwiches. Coffee will be furnished by the unit. St. Anne's Altar Group To Sponsor Two Events St. Anne's Altar society mem bers are making plans for two annual spring events. The group's annual St. Pat rick's day turkey dinner will be held in the parish hall Sunday, March 19. Mrs. Lawrence Espey is in charge of arrangements, assisted by Mrs. E. L. Gosh, Mrs. G. E. Horton, Mrs. E. G. Weiss, Mrs. D. Clifford and Mrs. J. J. Dunlevy. Hours for the dinner will be between 12 noon and 5 p.m. The group's Easter Monday luncheon is to be held this year at the YMCA. Mr. Henselman is now a junior in business admin istration at the college and is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Miss Nickle is on the staff of the California Oregon Power company here. Cultural Program Given At Sorority Meeting, Election To Be Held Miss Thelma Laughary pre sented the cultural program on "Sculpture," at T h u r s day's meeting of Beta Sigma Phi soror ity. Members met in the home of Mrs. Norville Hildman, 1416 West 10th street and hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Bar bara Norcross and Mrs. Hilde man. Election of new officers will be held at the group's next meeting, Thursday, March 23. The cultural program will be "Modeling," and it is planned to have a guest speaker talk on ceramics. The club members also plan to learn square dancing on Tues day evenings. Mrs. O. A. Eden has consented to teach the group. Phoenix Women Slate Meeting For Friday Phoenix The Phoenix Home Extension unit will meet Friday, March 17, in the Presbyterian church for a business meeting and talk on glovemaking. There will also be a day for glovemak ing during the following week. Leaders are Mrs. Elsworth McCammon and Mrs. Will Elson. Luncheon is a planned menu and those attending are asked to take table service. E. Schultz. Purposes of the group are for promotion of civic affairs and sociability. Charter members of the or ganization are Mrs. Schulz, Mrs. Etha Wall, Mrs. E. L. Hitt, Mrs. Bert Hukill, Mrs. Fred Lawr ence, Mrs. Albert Hall, Mrs. I. D. Canfield and Mrs. Russell Zun del. First officers of the club are Mrs. Schulz, president; Mrs. Hall, vice-president and Mrs. Zundel, secretary-treasurer.
