Redskins Win Fourth, Prospect Loses Consolation Round Title Ashland, March 4 Jackson ville hh won fourth place and Elkton took consolation round top honors in games played Sat urday afternoon in the Southern Oregon college Invitational bas ketball tournament here. Prospect was the loser in the clash with Elkton with the Log gers dropping a 42 to 30 deci sion after the final victors led 18 to 10 at the half. J'villt Wins 30-29 Jacksonville slapped down Butte Falls 30 to 29 in one of the closest games of the ' entire tournament to win fourth spot in the championship round. Ihe score was tied 14 to H at the halftlme whistle pause. Vernon To Fight Hugo Vernon, Medford, makes his initial ring debut by taking on the veteran Eddie Conrad, another Fort Jones Indian. Con rad has had a number of ama teur fights but if Vernon lives up to advance raves, he should take Conrad. Portland, Ore., March 4 (U.R) Four teams were slated today for the opening of the District 2 play offs of the National Association of Intercollegiate Basketball Monday in the Portland ice arena. Southern Oregon, Northern Idaho. Willamette and Portland universities will compete in a double elimination tournament with Portland seeded first but with Northern Idaho given the chances of a good dark horse. The Idahoans' will be flaunt ing Rollie McNair, top scorer in the Northwest conference, and his 17 points per game average. The first games pit Northern Idaho and Willamette, Portland and Southern Oregon. The win ners will play for the district title Tuesday night. Three Enter Cage Playoff By United Press Central Catholic of Portland. Eugene and Seappoose moved into the Oregon state high school class A basketball tournament round Friday night by beating down their season's end opposi tion. Seappoose took a 28 to 13 half time lead over St. Helens and increased it to a 63 to 44 triumph to top district 7. Eugene walloped St. Marv's of Eugene 76 to 43 at MacArthur court to capture the district 6 berth. Central Catholic moved into the tournament with a 54 to 40 victory over Gresham in district 13. The Cougars gained the cov eted title their first since 1941 with a 39 to 34 victory over the University of Idaho Van- days Friday night. The victory also gave WSC the right to meet the UCLA Bruins, southern division champs, in a playoff series at Los Angeles for the conference title. In another northern division tussle, the Washington Huskies gained sole possession of third place by edging Oregon State 47 to 45. The margin of difference be tween the two clubs was on the free throw line from where the Huskies hit on 21 out of 29 at tempts.
