Bv FRANK JENKINS
Oklahoma City'i man-eating
(maybe) leopard if dead and we
can all breatne sign 01 renei.
Nobody was et. In fact, nobody
got even scratched.
THIS, apparently, Is the story:
The big cat, fresh over from
the jungles of India, got curious,
even as you and I, flexed his
muscles one fine morning, bound
ed 13 feet in the air (as he was
probably in the habit of doing
in his home habitat) cleared the
confining walls of his pit and
went for a stroll.
When he got tired and hungry,
he came home. He died while
sleeping off the effects of some
doped meat that had been put
out for him.
THE moral, if any?
Well, I'd say we worried too
much about something that fail
ed to happen.
I WONDER if it won't be the
same way about the A-bomb
and the tl-bomb.
I find It hard to believe that
these Russians, screwballed as
they nnloubtedly are, want to
kill off everybody in the world
THEMSELVES INCLUDED. I
have the feeling that they want
to go on living.
It s Just possible that the A-
bomb ana me H-Domrj win wont
out like poison gas did. As soon
as it was discovered that the
OTHER FELLOW COULD USE
POISON GAS TOO, everybody
quit using It.
THE thing we must do, of
course, is to leave no doubt
In the minds of the half-crazed
men in the Kremlin that if they
A-bomb and H-bomb us we'll
A-bomb and H-bomb them right
back.
If they thought they could
wipe us out to the last man witn
one fell blow, they'd do it.
They're that kind of cookies. But
if we're as smart as we always
have been, they CAN'T do it.
If we have bombs enough and
planes enough and have them
scattered widely enough over
our vast country they can't hit
us so hard or so quick that we
won't have a few squadrons of
planes left with which to bomb
them back.
If we can make It plain enough
that that is exactly what will
happen, I think they may re
frain from A-bomblng and H
bomblng us. Anyway, that was
the way it worked out with
poison gas and I find It hard to
believe that human nature has
changed to the point where it
won't work out the same way
wit hthe new horror bombs.
THIS engaging little tale ticks
off the wires from Long
Bench:

Cocker Spaniel Bites
Bandit And Prevents
Robbery In Chicago
Chicago (U.PJ Scooter, a
cocker spaniel, was credited with
scaring away two bandits after
the dog decided they were not
customers.
They demanded the money
from a cleaning shop cash reg

Adams, handed them $50. Then
they said they wanted more.
Scooter watched quietly. But
when one of the robbers stepped
behind the counter to look in the
cash drawer, Scooter went into
action.
He bit one man and both fled.
