MEDF0RDf5TRIBUNE Singler's Two Points Set Mobilgas Victory Make Playoff Needed Bill Singler's two-DOint bucket with about 30 seconds to play in the game gave Mobilgas a narrow 53 to 52 victory over Green's confectionery last night and made necessary a second game between the two to determine the second half AAU Basketball league champ. This game will be played Monday evening in a gymnasi um to be announced later. Narrow Early Lead The AAU contest last night at the junior high gym saw Mobil gas narrow the early Green's lead to four points at the third quarter and to three points at the automatic time out. Singler's basket and one by Don Waldron Pistol Shoot Here Sunday Members of the pistol division of the Medford Rifle club who do not plan to enter the regis tered shoot scheduled Sunday at Merrick's indoor range, today were asked by officers to re port at the range to help with details of putting on the compe tition. The- shoot which is expected to draw pistol shooters from as far away as Berkeley, Cal., and Corvallis, will start at 9:30 a.m. and will be open to spectators interested. Last Tuesday in the weekly pistol shoot Max Terienbach was high scorer with 270, fol lowed bv Cliff Friend with 254, Charles Forte 253, Paul Shelton 251 and Don Elliott 246. Lincoln And Roosevelt Take Last Cage Games Lincoln and Roosevelt basketball-teams closed the local grade school basketball season about as expected when they romped to victories over Washington and Jackson respectively yesterday afternoon. The games were played at Jackson and at Lincoln schools. Roosevelt, which already had captured the grade school title, found little trouble fn dumping Jackson 42 to 15 and Lincoln uped everyone on its squad in winning 26 to 12. Stacy, with 17; Waldron, with 31, and Col ley, with 10, paced Mobilgas in scoring, Riggs garnered 15 and Gatiin 9 to pace the confec tionery quintet. In the preliminary to the fea ture tilt Groceteria nipped Tim ber Products 41 to 38 in a close ly fought game in which neither team led by more than four or five points. Groceteria was ahead 11 to 7 at the first quarter, 20 to 59 at the half and Timber led 32 to 26 at the third period. Monday evening's game be tween Green's and Mobilgas will decide who will team with the Rogue River town team in rep resenting the Medford AAU Basketball league in the district playoff with Grants Pass Legion team and Fleischman Lumber of that .city starting Tuesday. First game of that district AAU playoff in the local senior high gym is booked at 7 p. m, with the two Grants Pass teams playing, followed about 8:15 when Rogue River plays the Monday night victor. Paul Fagan, the multi-millionaire owner of the San Francisco baseball team, said yesterday thai no more pea nuts would ba sold in his stadi um because it cost too much to sweep up the shells. But Fagan couldn't stand the wrath of his public very long. So he surrendered. "I give up . . . Mr. Peanut wins." Fagan announced, cow ering in his stadium office. The Diuctte-Gray combo had taken a fall in the hectic brawl and the Atlas was giving Gray a genuine thumping when the end came. Lipscomb had taken his turn at working Gray over when the Atlas came in to put on the cruncher. The Atlas applied a full nelson and when he was awarded the fall, he slammed the helpless Gray into a ring corner, pain fully injuring his neck. Jerome Hat Say Gray was assisted from the ring and the Atlas and Lipscomb went after their foes to get them back into the ring for more hos tilities. It was when the battle pit was empty that Jerome entered and announced that, in his opinion, Gray was already "out" when Lipscomb turned him over to the Atlas and that the self-styled Peacock of the Ring had used undue rough stuff in slamming him into the corner. Jerome or dered Dusette and Gray the win ners, much to the delight of the big crowd. In a spectacular match which was full of lightning-fast maneu vs and grappling skill, young, aggressive Arne Skaaiand made a host of local fans in his debut by going to a fall-apiece draw with Pierre LaBelle. Boat Races Due In May The Southern Oregon Boat club will sponsor outboard boat races at Emigrant lake in May. Exact date will be announced later. This year will see a dif ferent type of races than in the past. These will be invitational races for stock motors and hulls. Invitations are being sent to Klamath Falls, Redding, Eure ka and Klamath, Cai. Members of the club promise bigger and better races with more boats per race and more excitement than in the past. The club is now open for new member?. Prospects may contact Harold Littrell or Bob Lee at 2-6235. It is not a racing club but an organization to promote boating and fishing in southern Oregon and northern California.
