It seems astonishing that even a health commissioner can nave the temerity to commit himself in such arbitrary fashion at this late day, But when we recall how many mad dog scares the same "authority" has whipped up In the newspapers in recent years it is not so hard to understand. About the time the health commissioner asserted so posi tively that only fuming nitric acid will destroy rabies virus, he Invited me to visit the health department laboratory where he would convince me of the reality of rabies. I assumed he meant rabies in man. and called on the commissioner at once. He took me over to the lab, nlroduced me to the man In charge there, and showed me a bbit in a cage. The rabbit, the commissioner said, would die Hhln 1 forget Just how many days of rabies. The rabbit had been Inoculated with "hydra phobia" (superstitious synonym for rabies preferred by health authorities" for its dramatic ef fect) and would die of the dis ease. They were picked up shortly after a $33 hotel robbery here. The men were identified as Robert Lee Roblson, 21, Oke mah, Okla., Raymond Levoy, 19, New York City, and William Franklin Mullin, 25, Ft. Lewis, i Wash. Mullin was absent without 1 leave from the army post. The girl, Maxine Mary Mul aley, 19, was arrested in an auto court where the four were be lieved staying. The Russians appeared unim pressed. They clamped a new stranglehold on the Berlin super highway and held up more than 200 trucks within six hours this morning after letting traffic flow normally from before dark lo midnight. Bill Hayward, of which Jim Europe's band was a part. The 15th was the first combat regiment at the front in World War I. Had 1,500 killed and wounded in 191 days under fire. One hundred and fifty members of the outfit were awarded the Croix de Guerre. Pvt.
