Lutheran Church To Hold Reception For New Pastor A reception in honor of the Rev. O. W. Ebright, new pastor of Zion Lutheran church, and Mrs. Ebright will be held Sun day, February 12, in the church parlors immediately following the morning service. The new pastor and his wife are arriving this week from their former home in Lincoln, Neb. Captain Lansing spoke with special reference to the interpretation of Oregon s laws dealing with the violation of the basic rule, drunken driv ing and reckless driving. Feb. 8 U.R The state emergency board has authorized the purchase for in clusion in the capitol zone of a Summer street lot that had been chosen as the site for a seven- story apartment building. The emergency board, at a spe cial meeting called here Mon day by its chairman, Senate President William E. Walsh of Coos Bay .authorized the state board of control to buy the Sum mer street lot from Robert T. Coafes, Portland builder. Coates had purchased the property, had obtained a com mitment for an FHA loan and had taken out a building permit for the project here when he learned that the property was in the path of the capitol zone. Girl Scouts To Take Snow Party Excursion On Saturday, February 11, there will be a snow party for intermediate and senior Girl scouts. The girls will leave the Greyhound bus depot at 10:30 a.m. and will return at 5 The round trip will be to larhide hill in the bisKiyous. Scouts must register with per mission slips at the Scout house by 4:30 p.m. Friday. To Draft Plans For Conservation Education Here The Jackson County Soil Con servation District Referendum committee will meet at the court house Friday, February 10, at 8 p.m. to draft plans for an edu cational campaign in the Inter ests of the formation of a soil conservation district in the county. Landowners who hold more than 10 acres in Jackson county, outside of the area adjacent to the city of Rogue River, will be asked to vote on the issue March 22. If 30 per cent of the eligible landowners approve the propos al, the district will be formed under state law for the purpose of coordinating soil and water conservation. To Encourag Planning ine district would have no legal right to levy taxes or BS' sessments and would not be com pulsory on landowners in the district. The district would en courage planned improvements tor Detter unitization of irriga tion, drainage and land use. By formation of the district, techni cal assistance and engineering service may be furnished by the federal soil conservation service. The referendum committee, under the chairmanship of Dave Lowry, has issued a statement saying it believes the district here could do much "to improve the productivity of the land and at the same time conserve and even increase the value of land resources in Jackson county." A slate of nominees for the election was presented at the last meeting by a committee headed by Ray Schumacher, who is pres ident of the Oregon Association of Realty Boards. Nominees in clude: For president, C. Lyall "Flash" Fidler, Claude Mclntyre and Mark Goldy; for vice-president, E. J. Bradford, Arch Masterson, and Bill Peake, and for secretary-treasurer, Douglas Pickell, H. O. Martin and Charles Ray. Four directors will also be named at the Friday meeting. The state convention of Realty Boards will be held in Medford in September, it was announced by the Medford group today. About 400 or 500 brokers and their wives will attend. French of Moro filed with the state election bureau here Tuesday for re-election as state representative from the 22nd district comprising Gilliam, Morrow, Sherman and Wheeler counties. Sears Roebuck Store Damaged By Flames Chehalis, Wash., Feb. 8 (U.R) An early morning fire fanned by 35-mile-an-hour wlndsswept through the lower part of the Sears, Roebuck & Company store here today. Store Manager Frank Moir said prompt work by firemen saved most of the stock from the greedy flames. The fire, which broke out in the basement of the building, was climbing inside the walls to the second floor when firemen got the blaze under control after an hour-long battle. The store's contents received heavy smoke and water damage.
