Tucker, County Extension Agent Sluggish Milking MachinM May Hav Internal Difficulty Milking machines which seem to be sluggish or otherwise not "up to snuff" may be suffering some internal difficulties. Partially clogged air lines are the most common offender in improper milking machine op eration. Lines should be cleaned every two months and every time milk is accidentally pumped into the lines. A can of lye to a bucket of water makes a good rotation to use. Starting with the stop cock nearest to the pump, draw solution and air al ternately into the line through the vacuum hose, then progress down the line, being careful not to get too much solution In the catch tank ahead of the pump. This should be removed period ically and drained. Old soft rubber in the vacuum hose or inflation rubbers will also cause the milking efficiency to be reduced. A little consideration to these two factors will result in much more efficient machine milking. Earle Jossy County Extension Agent. Many Calls Received Concerning Frozen Fruit This week brought many calls concerning frozen canned foods. Freezing does not make canned food unsafe to eat if the cans are still airtight. The fruits and vegetables prob ably will be somewhat softer and more broken. Foods will spoil quickly after thawing if the cans are no longer tightly sealed. Examine your jars carefully for leaks or loose lids. When the liquid in the can freezes, it swells. The swelling may push up the cover on some types of jars, or it may cause a break in the tin cans. Whether the can is airtight or not boil all home canned vege tables, meat or fish for ten min utes after removing contents from the can. D. Eula Wintermote County Extension Agent, Home Economics, Spring Spray Meetings St Tuesday, Wednesday The spring spray meeting to discuss pest control and outline spray programs will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. The meeting concerning peaches will be held Tuesday in the Phoenix Grange hall at 1:30 p.m. A. P. Steenland, plant pathology specialist, will be pre sent to discuss spray material and peach diseases. Other speak ers will discuss pest control ana chemical thinning. The pear growers' meeting will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Central Point Grange hall. A. F. Kirkpatrick, repre senting the American Cynamid company, will discuss safety measures in handling paramion. Other speakers will bring out new developments in tne control of other pests ana diseases. Brannan will order price supports con tinued through the' spring and summer for Pork-on-thc-hoof. These officials said that hogs provide too large a share of farm income to take a chance on a drastic break in prices. Hogs now are selling close to the sup port level, although the govern ment has not actually had to buy any pork for price support, as yet. On this score, the future is not too bright. Hog marketings this year will set a new peacetime record high. No one can precise ly forecast consumer demand. But officials agree It will shrink if the national economy dips. Even if it doesn't shrink, they don't know whether it would be high enough to hold prices at present levels without govern ment pork purchases. No Longer Required Farm law no longer requires supports for hogs. The present hog support program dies March 30. Brannan has not yet decided at exactly what level hog sup ports should be set after that date. He may lower supports somewhat. In terms of dollars-and-cents the support level for the spring and summer may be set . about five per cent lower than it was this fall and winter. In terms of parity, that would mean a drop of more than 10 per cent. Since under the new formula which went Into op eration last month the parity price for hogs is boosted. Parity is a legal standard supposed to measure a price fair to pro ducer and consumer alike.
