2-Minute Cage Rule Abandoned In League Portland, Ore., Feb. 1 (U.R) This year's controversial two minute rule goes out the window beginning Friday night for Northwest conference basketball teams following yesterday's adoption of the modified Big Ten version of the rule. Announcement of the change followed a telephonic poll of con ference coaches by Linfield co Coach Paul Durham, president of the Conference Coaches' as sociation. Five Favor Chang Durham said five of the six conference schools favored the Beavers Vie With Huskies At Corvallis Corvallis, Feb. 1 The closest rivalry in northern division bas ketball will be renewed for the first time this season Friday and Saturday in Gill coliseum when Washington invades for a two night stand. . Both will start at 8 p.m. Saturday's game will be the featured event of Dad's day on the Oregoti State campus and more than 2,000 fathers are ex pected. Reserve seats for this contest are already sold out and only slightly over a hundred remain for the series opener. General admission tickets will be sold at the gates starting at 7 p.m. each night. Over the years the Husky- Beaver hoop warfare has been an exciting, nip and tuck affair with one of the two teams more often than not winning the divi sion championship. Washington has won from the Orange 73 times and Oregon State 67. In the last four seasons, how ever, Slats Gill's Orangemen have won 11 to only six for the Huskies. Eagles Announce Schedule Change Eagle Point. Feb. 1 Several changes in the Eagle Point high basketball schedule due to post ponement of games and agree ments with opponents were an nounced today by Coach Shirley Callaghan. 'Eagle Point plays at Ashland Friday and Myrtle Creek here Saturday. Other games will send Grants Pass to Eagle Point on Tues day, February 7, Eagles at Med- tora teoruary iu, tagies at Klamath Falls February 15, Ker by at Eagle Point February 21, Medford at Eagle Point Febru ary 24, Central Point at Eagle Point February 28 and Eagles at Grants Pass March 3. Eagle Point, Myrtle Creek, Kerby and Central Point are in the J-D-J league in which the Eagles are undefeated. All but Kerby and Myrtle Point are in the Southern Oregon class A conference and district 4. OSC Frosh Basketball . Team Slates 2 Games Corvallis, Feb. 1 Paul Valen ti's strong OSC freshman basket ball team, winner in three of its first four starts, goes into action two times late this week against a trio of the top prep fives in the western half of the state. The Beaver yearlings are home for a pair of week-end con tests in Gill coliseum. Friday Bob Mulder will bring his Cen tral Catholic of Portland to Cor vallis for a game starting at 4 p.m. A game with Lebanon high Saturday at 2 p.m. will complete the week's slate. switch to two free throws given on all defensive fouls in the last two minutes. Pacific Coach Opposes Only Pacific collcce Coach Harold Wolf voted against the change, but after the count was completed he said he favored the change since all other schpols wanted it. The Northwest conference con sists! of Pacific. Lewis and Clark. Willamette, Whitman, College of Idaho and Linfield. The amended two minute rule goes into effect Friday night when Pacific plays at Linfield and College of Idaho plays at Whitman. Willamette meets Pa cific and College of Idaho plays at wnitman Saturday night 'Talent Party' Set Today For 'Kapers' A "talent party" for those who can sing, dance, do acrobatics, play a musical instrument or per- iorm otner acts on tne stage win be held by Medford and Ashland Kiwaqjs clubs at 7:30 p.m. today at the Medford senior high school cafeteria. The event will enable Direct or Bill Croarkin to select talent for the Kiwanis Kapers and Min strel Show of 1950, to be pre sented later this month. Croarkin has issued a call for soloists of all kinds, and for wom en interested in chorus routines, whether high school girls, work ing girls or young matrons. There are also chorus openings for men. SOC Cagers Down OTI 67 To 48 At SOC Gym Ashland, Feb. 1 Southern Oregon college basketball quin tet defeated Oregon Te?h nf Klamath Falls 67 to 48 a March of Dimes benefit on the SOC floor last night. The Red Raiders led at the half 31 to 25. Capt. Keith Ward with 29 points and Bill O'Neal who dumped in 10 led the Raiders in scoring while Montgomery got 17 and Heins 10 to pace the Tech quintet. Cliff Friend Captures Leg On Handicap Award Cliff Friend won his first leg on the pistol handicap trophy last night when the pistol divi sion of the Medford Rifle club held its weekly shoot at the in door range in Merrick's base ment. Seventeen shooters took part in the competition. Max Terzenbach was high man in the regular shoot with 270, Stan Smith had 258, Clin ton Charley 254, Frank Rush 252 and Roy Hewitt 248. La Salle College Five May Be Minus Mentor Philadelphia. Feb. 1 (U.R) The La Salle college basketball team, ranked among the top ten in the nation, may have to fin ish the season without a regular coach. Coach Ken Loeffler. who is handling the team in his first year without an assistant, was reported suffering from a dis placed vertebra resulting from a fall from a horse on his Wyoming ranch in 1945. M., Feb. 1 (U.R) A man and woman were In crit ical condition today after being lost four days in the trackless wastelands east of here. . Separate search parties found John Baca, 20, and Antonia Lu ccro, 38, yesterday.' Miss Lucero was delirious, and both were suf fering from shock and frostbite. Baca and Miss Lucero were the last two members of a picnic party that became stranded Fri day when their car broke down. Four others in the party found their way to ranches by Sunday. Baca, a young San Miguel county school teacher, told auth orities he became separated from Miss Lucero Saturday when he climbed up on a ledge to get his bearings. He was found yester day, a few hours before two cow boys spotted Miss Lucero in a deep gorge near the Moro river. Sow Gives Life To Save Brood From Fire Chicago, Feb. 1 (U.R) A sow gave her life in an effort to save her litter of pigs from a burning barn. Deputy Sheriff Jack Henning told of the mother hog's heroism. As he watched firemen battle the fire on a suburban farm, he said, the sow emerged with a pig, just a few days old, in her mouth. "That sow made three trips out of the barn carrying a pig each time," he said.
