January 29, 1950 Society and club's Women's Division Announces Returns Annual Campaign Returns in the women's divis ion of the annual March ot Dimes are now coming in, Mrs. Elwood Hedberg, chairman, announced yesterday. The first contribution was made by the Junior Service league before the drive opened. Letters were sent to all wo men's organizations in the city and the first to respond were the Business and Professional Women's club, Canton Siskiyou auxiliary and Navy Mothers' club. Women's organizations in other sections of the county, Mrs. Hedberg explained, are being contacted by their community chairmen. Sewettes Hold Meeting In Central Point Home A social evening was enjoyed bv members of the Sewette club Thursday at the home of Mrs. F. K. Beebe. Central Point. As retiring president of the club, Mrs. Beebe was presented a lima from the members. Games were played with Mrs. Jessie Wils receiving first prize and Mrs. Myrtle Carter consola tion prize. The door prize was won by Mrs. Ira Tosh. Mrs. Vinls Carter was welcomed DacK inio the club and visitors included Mrs. Myrtle Martin, Denver. Colo., guest of Mrs. Wilson; and Mrs. Frank Carter, St. Louis, Mo., guest of Mrs. M. Carter. Next meeting of the club will be February 9 at the home of Mrs. J. L. Van Pelt, 1132 West 11th street. New Chapter- Medford's newest chapter of the PEO sisterhood, chapter CG, will hold Its first meeting Wed nesday, February 1, at the home of Mrs. Donald Ward, 16 Ken . wood avenue. A business session will follow luncheon to be served at one o'clock. San Francisco's Montgomery street was once the city s waterfront. Mr. and Mrs. Ira C. Williams, 511 King street, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Wednesday evening with a reception at the First Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs. Williams were mar ried in Newell, la., and have lived In the Rogue river valley since 1913, first in Talent and later in Medford. Medford Couple Celebrates Golden IV adding Anniversary An event of Interest the past week was the reception for which Mr. and Mrs. I. C. WilliHins were hosts. The reception, given In the parlors of the First Methodist church Wednesday evening, observed the couple's golden wedding anniversary and about 150 friends called to congratulate them. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. High, long time friends of the Williams, re ceived at the door and also greeting friends with the couple were Mrs. Williams' sister, Miss Verna Gilmore of Sacramento, Cal., and Mr. Williams' sister, Mrs. H. F. Ellison ol Lincoln, Neb. The Rev. and Mrs. Meredith A. Mrs. A. C. Pierce sang numbers which she dedicated to the Williams, recalling as she did so her friendship with them since girl hood. For the reception Mrs. Wil liams wore a crepe dress of teal green and her corsage was of two yellow orchids. Following cutting ot the first piece of wedding cake by the Williams, Mrs. H. E. Conger and Mrs. J. C. Sparks served cake to the guests from a table covered with a lace cloth, one of three which Mrs. Williams has made. Centering the table was the golden wedding cake, decorated j in yellow rosebuds and gold leaves, and surrounded by a wreath of frecsias and greenery. Gold tapers completed the table arrangement. Mrs. D. J. Cuthbertson and Mrs. H. A. Gllkison presided at the punch bowl, assisted by Mrs. C. F. Hoppc. Members of the Shipmates Sunday school class, of which Mr. and Mrs. Williams are mem bers, were in charge of general arrangements for the reception. Mrs. A. E. Brockway opened gifts and Mrs. F. F. Burk passed the guest book. Out-of-town guests were Mrs. : Robert L. Scott, Shelton. Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. Everett Faber and Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Jewett of Central Point, Mr. and Mis. Clar ence Holdridgc and Jerry, Mrs. Edna Holdridgc, Mrs. Lura J. Walty, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Wheeler and Rev. Alice May Woolley, all of Talent. Following their marriage In Newell, la., in 1900, Mr. and Mrs. Williams resided on the farm which Mr. Williams owned and continued farming there until the year 1913 when they moved to Oregon, farming at Talent until four Brothers, Wives ' Set Marriage Record Laurel, Miss. (U.R) Four broth ers and their wives are believed to have set a record for lengthy marriages. W. N. Montgomery and his wife have been married 64 years; J. A. Montgomery and his wife 57 years; J. J. Montgomery and his wife 55 years, and H. C. Montgomery and his wife also 55 years. The four Montgomery broth ers and their wives have lived in Jones county virtually their entire lifetime. Stork Club Owner Say Men Prefer Simple Food New York (U.R) You can aban dan your struggles with the spe cialty cook books, if it's a man's heart you're after. Men still prefer simple and solid dishes like beef stew and corned beef and cabbage, ac cording to Sherman Billingsley and his chef, Gabriel Beaumont. Billingsley, owner of the Stork Club, hit on a successful formula for keeping everybody satisfied He feeds the men beef stew and hands out perfume to the ladies. He figures he gives away more than 100 gallons of his perfume, Sortilege, every year. And the chef has lost track of the number of onions that go into a year's beef stew supply. "The hardest thing I ever had to do was to get my French chef t" add beef stew and corned beef and cabbage to the menu," Bil lingsley said. Beaumont is an artistic Frenchman who prefers the word "create" to the word "cook." Beaumont did manage to add a slightly continental touch to the beef stew. He used' a recipe which he said came from the French province of Burgundy. But he stuck to the simple Amer ican method of preparing corned beef and cabbage.
