if LipscombTop Over Foe At Armory Here Falling for a trick almost as old as the wrestling profession cost Buck Davidson his grudge match with Jack Lipscomb at the armory last night. The struggle, which was as rough as a rasp, failed to live up to the majority of the customers' expectations for wildness. Although Davidson tried most of the time to make his bigger foe wrestle, Lipscomb would have none of It and preferred to use his first and other tactics unbecoming a gentleman wres tler. The first fall went to Lips comb when Davidson yelled "un cle" from a half crab hold. Da vidson evened it via a toe hold but that was the last spurt for the favorite. Wrestlers Entangled The gladiators became en tangled in a cradle hold and neither would let loose. Referee Earl Yoaklev. who had been mauled considerably several times during the fracas, refused to interfere and left them to work it out as best they could, and that's what cost Davidson the match. Lipscomb offered a handshake to break the hold and Davidson accepted, releasing his grip. Lips comb, however, failed to let go lnd flipped Davidson into an other half crab for the final fall. Georges Dusette and Lee Gra bel each took a fall in a sparkling struggle. It was as clean as Mon day morning's wash and faster than lightning. It was by far the best match on the card. Negro Quint Slated Feb. 2 Referees for the Harlem Globetrotters vs. AAU Basket ball league all-stars game at the senior high gymnasium. Thurs day night, February 2, were an nounced today in addition to four of the youths who will play for the AAU team. Virgil Swanson and Ted Schopf have been selected to of ficiate at both the 'Trotters-AAU game at 8 p.m. and the prelimi nary slated for 6:30 p.m. Five members of the Green's confectionery team, first half champions of the AAU Basket ball league this season and a leader in the second half stand ings as of now have been chos en. They are M. O. Busack, Tex Gatlin, Snuffy Smith, Chuck Jandreau and Barney Riggs. Gatlin, Jandreau and Riggs are remembered among fans in the valley for their prowess while attending SOC. A preliminary game will be announced early next week. Medford's youths will be out to keep a near perfect record in tact when all three quintets clash starting at 7 p m. when the seventh grade teams clash on the girls' gym floor and at the same time the eighth graders play on the new gym floor. Varsity Slated 8:15 Varsity or ninth graders will play starting about 8:15 on the new gym floor with the local boys still much interested in re taining their undefeated status for two years. The seventh and eighth grade teams from Medford are also among the more privileged quin tets among junior high schools with many wins and few defeats for both so far in 1949-50. Win Over Pointers This past Tuesday night the Bulldogs from Medford junior high made a clean sweep of a triple-header at the local school gyms, taking over the Pointer seventh, eighth and varsity teams for the second time this season. Roseburg is expected to be a rough customer, however, be cause of their fairly good record of Wins to date. Jacksonville AAU Team Tops Phoenix 38 to 29 Jacksonville, Jan. 27 Jack sonville town team in the val ley's AAU Basketball league topped the Phoenix town team 38 to 29 at the J'ville high gym last night. . Lincoln And Roosevelt Win Grade School Tilts Lincoln and Roosevelt grade school quintets scored victories in the local league yesterday when the Roughridcrs continued to show classy playing with a 43 to 15 victory over Jackson and Lincoln tamed Washington 29 to 13, Lincoln came back with a flash after losing to Roosevelt the previous week to take the victory with ease. S. Forester Mervin Whitmore of Hcbo today were concerned about dying and weak ened aeer in ine i iuaivtooK burn area of Oregon. Both outdoormen said two se vere winters in a row had weak ened the animals and advised that the burn be closed to hunt ers for an indefinite period in order to give the deer a chance to increase in number and im prove their health. Both men stated that hundreds ! of dying and dead deer were seen throughout the area when they made a survey up the Trask river to find out if coyotes were killing weakened deer. They said they found more weakened deer in the Wilson river area than they did around the Trask river.
