V i EIGHT MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Thursday, January 26. 1SS0 M Class B High School Games Slated Friday Butte Falls, Rogue River, Phoe nix and Jacksonville will be the home teams Friday when the county class B high school league opens its fourth (week-end of games in the valley. While both Butte Falls and Roeue River, the only undefeat ed B school quintets in the coun ty, will be favored to win over Gold Hill and Prospect respec tively, neither is likely to win Dy an easy means. This applies es pecially to Butte Falls. Grid, Basketball Clinic Scheduled Eugene, Jan. 28 Dates have been set for the annual summer football clinic held by the Uni versity of Oregon summer session. The combined clinic will open on July 10 and close July 21. One week of the football work mill hp conducted bv Jim Aiken, Oregon's head coach, and the other by a guest coach. The same system will be applied to basket ball and Oregon's John Warren will split the two weeks period with another visiting coach. Dean Jacobson said the vis iting coaches would be an nounced later. In the past Stu Holcomb and Wally Butts ol Georeia have handled football and Vadal Peterson of Utah and Gordon Ridings of Columbia were In charge of basketball. Three games are going to be made up next month that had to be DostDoned because of bad weather and so the season is by no means over as to who will win. ProsDect has a game lo make ud with Phoenix and St. Mary's while Rogue River must make up a game with rnoenix. Last week's games saw Butte Falls edge Jacksonville 39 to 38 In two overtimes, lioia run aown St. Mary's 47 to 15 and Rogue River take the measure of Tal ent 48 to 38. The scheduled Phoenix-Prospect game was post poned due to bad weather. Rogue River will play its make up game with Phoenix at Phoenix on January 31 as will Prospect piny at St. Mary's. The Talent and Butte Falls make up game is slated for February 7. Varsity games are at 8:15 p.m. following a 6:30 prelim. AAU Cagers Vie Tonight Junior High TONIGHT'S SCHEDULE Talent vi. Klamath Falls high cagers will meet Eagle Point high's unbeaten basketball quintet in conference district games Friday at 8:15 p.m. on the Eagles' floor in what probably will be the feature Ducks, Huskies To Play Friday Eugene, Jan. 26 Coach John Warren and the Oregon Ducks are busy preparing what they hope will be a surprise to the powerful Washington Muskies Friday and Saturday nights at McArthur court. The Ducks dropped a nair of northern division games to the Muskies In Seattle last weekend and now the two teams meet in the final half of the 1950 series. Last year the same situation existed. The Washington club won both games In Seattle and then came to Eugene to run into an im proved Oregon team and lost the final two contests. Coach Warren and His Ducks would like to duplicate the 1949 results and even the series again in the final two games. In addi tion, this weekend will be dedi cated to the Oregon Dads on the campus and the Saturday basket ball game will be the climax of the annual affair. Keith Wade Drops Bit In Conference Scoring Chico, Cal., Jan. i.6 Keith Wade, who has been one of the top scorers in the Far Western Basketball conference, dropped several notches to rank seventh, according to latest official fig ures here. The Southern Ore gon college center has averaged 21.5 points per game. John Barger tipped in 12 last weeK against Humboldt State to take over sixth place with 65 points In four games and an av erage of 16.5 per game. Wade has made 50 points in four games out. nas played. Salem Senators Train At Corvallis Or Salem Salem, Ore.. Jan. 26 (U.R) The Salem Senators of the West- ern International Baseball league will train either at Cor- valis or Salem this spring, Bus iness Manager George migh said today. The Senators will train at Cor vallis if they get permission from Oregon State college to use the field there again. Training will start March 30. Western International league play win open April 18. And Salem will play Tacoma here on that date. Raiders Play Chico Friday 1 And Saturday Ashland, Jan. 26 Southern Oregon college and Chico State will battle it out on the SOC court this coming week-end for what may be the Far western conference championship al though both schools still have many league games yet to play. Victories for the Red Raiders both Friday and Saturday nights would give them six wins ana no losses while Chico now in sec ond place under conference- leading Southern Oregon would sink low in the standings. SOC Among Unbeaten SOC currently has four victor ies and no defeats while Chico points to a record of five wins. and one loss. The Kaiaers aeteat ed Humboldt State 69 to 64 and 61 to 50 last week-end while Chico split a two-game series with the Cal Aggies quintet. Chico is said to be the highest- scoring quintet in the far West ern conference, however, ana this could mean not only a close series Friday and Saturday but also a series with much scoring. Other games in the conference and district tomorrow night will find Grants rasa playing at Cen tral Point and Ashland travel ing to Kerby (Illinois Valley). Medford's attack and defense looked sharp yesterday as the boys worked out for their game Saturday at Central Point, which led Coach Frank Roelandt to re mark, "Wish we were playing the Pointers tonight. Passing ball-handling and shooting ac curacy was good. Wrigley said today. Gallagher, the Cubs' big boss since 1940, was kept on as busi ness manager but relieved of his vice-president's title at the annual board of directors meet ing yesterday. Gallagher's du ties will remain the same as they have been, Wrigley explained. 27 Take Part In Rifle Shoot At Indoor Range A record number of 27 shoot ers competed last night at the regular weexiy snoot ol the rifle division of the Medford Rifle club at Merrick's indoor range. A win for the Eagles tomorrow would give it a big boost in morale also. Klamath figures to be a mighty tough foe with its height and perhaps a psychological advan tage but Eagle Point has shown scoring power that may give the Pelicans a rough evening. - On paper, at least, Grants Pass Is not expected to have too much trouble in subduing Central Point nor should the Grizzlies encounter much trouble at Kerby. Games slated Saturday night should attract large crowds to Central Point where the Black Tornado rates a favorite to take over the winless Pointers and to Ashland where the Grizzlies are slated to entertain Klamath Falls. Medford Boys Favored jsagie Point is rated a strong favorite to down Kerby the same evening at Kerby. While the Pointers are not ex pected to give Medford too much trouble the rivalry between tne two schools and communities could make the game much clos er than one would expect com paring the records of the two schools. Student Tom Rngsdale will be equipment manager on a tem porary basis. Although Sullivan's lob was equipment manager, the former Nevada football player helped Coach Jim Aiken instruct the line.
