Master Paul Force presided and State Deputy William Howes was present. . Third and fourth degrees were conferred on Mr. and Mrs. Rob ert Bitterling, Mr. and Mrs. Ray mond Ragsdale, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hayes and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pelican. Ed Cowden received a pen and pencil set for bringing In new members. He has brought In six already. , Clarence Davles. giving the legislative report, spoke on the Brannan plan, saying that many organizations were against it, Including the National Grange, Farm bureau, most of the repub lican organization, southern sen ators and the public in general. Last appeal for sales slips for the last quarter of '49 was made. Grangers should turn in their lips to Mrs. Roy Smith, chair man. A school for Grange masters, nvnn and their wives will be held at Central Point on Feb- runrv 1 at 8 D.r A March of Dimes dance and ioclal evening was announced for February 4 for Grangers and their invited guests. Each Grange lady is to bring a pie. Sprvine committee for Febru ary 7 meeting will be Mr. and Mrs. Glen Clymer, Mrs. Gene Bishop and Miss Helen narnisn H.E.C. will meet Wednesday January 25 at Mrs. Sam Kelm's home. Grange is sponsoring March of Dimes dance to be held in Grange hall. Saturday evening, January 28. Square dances will be held in Grange hall the first and third Sunday evenings for Grange Members. The birthday dinner will be held every four months beginning with the new year. The last H.E.C. meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Gertie Carlton with Mrs. Meryle Carl ton as co-hostess. Each Granger Is considered a committee of one on member ship. Lecture program consisted of a railroad skit for the benefit of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dengler who had just celebrated their SOth wedding anniversary. Taking part were Frank Hall, Ruby Hughes, Mrs. Larry Myers and Harry Nelson. The usual monthly covered dish luncheon of home econonv ics committee was enjoyed by 38 members on January 19 at Grange hall. Mr. and Mrs. w Shady Cove - Trail Shady Cove Trail, Jan. 21 Since the fire that completely de stroyed the home in which the Al Hudson family was living, res idents of the Shady Cove-Trail area have been collecting food clothing and money to help them out in the emergency. Steelhead Post No. 6881 VFW and Ladies Auxiliary have made a grocery donation through the Koguedale Cash Market and have a box at the market for donations of food and clothing from residents of the community. Henry Hall of Shady Cove is reported seriously in witn pneu monia at the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Braughton of Shady Cove. Dr. M. P. Vogel of Shady Cove is in attendance. Walt Messeear of Trail wishes to thank all those who helped put a new roof on his house dur ing the snowy weather last Sun day. The roof had collapsed dur ing the snowstorm. Those helping were Carl Scott, Al Johnson, Ir win Howe, Ralph Watson, Paul Schrieber and Lee Wade, all of Trail. Mrs. Lena Wilkinson of Trail was guest of honor at a pink and blue baby shower given for her at the Elk Creek Social club on January 14 by Mrs. Blanche Zim- merlee and Mrs. Betty Lande of Elk Creek. Trail. Mrs. Wilkinson received many lovely gifts. Mrs. Clark Detunon ol Elk Creek, Trail Is reported to have suffered a heart attack brought on by a siege of pneumonia and is ill at her home. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Chamber lain of Shady Cove, parents of Mrs. Cecil Kce of Shady Cove have just returned from a trip through California, Oregon and Washington and saw many of their relatives and friends. While on their trip they visited with Mr. Kee's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kee in Spokane, Wash. Mr. Kee Sr. was 111 at the time. Mrs. Blanche Zimmerlee of Elk Creek, Trail suffered 12 broken ribs In a 7 foot fall off her front porch during the snowv weather. She was taken to the Commun ity hospital in Mcdford. During the recent storm thirty- three trees were counted fallen in a short distance on Elk Creek. Annual election of officers was held by the Elk Creek Social club on January 6. Newly elected of ficers who will be Installed by the past president on February 3 are president, Chet Willson; vice president, Howard Ash; sec retary, mitn Proctor and treas urer, Ken Lacey. Shady Cove school was closed for four days during the snow and freezing weather. Conditions were such that It was deemed un safe to take the school bus out. Dr. and Mrs. Verne Wilson of the Camp White domiciliary cen ter were recent dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Krotz of Shady Cove. Mrs. Jessie Hummel of Shndv Cove suffered a compound frac ture of the wrist In a fall off her back porch during the snowy weather. Elk Creek-Trail PTA is spon soring a Rumpus Party to be held the night of February 3 at the schoolhouse. The O. O. Willson ranch lo cated 10 miles up Elk Creek was sold recently to Mr. and Mrs. Os car Hanson. They have two small children. This Is the old Trusts residence. During the recent cold weather the roof of the woodshed on the Sheldon Hughes place on Elk LrecK collapsed from heavy snow. Sunday. January 22, 1950 R. Splvey, who recently Joined the Grange celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. Committees were appointed as follows: Project program, Ruby Hughes, Florence Tison, Mae Le Brun and Betty Kasworm; serv ing for Grange meetings, Beth Potter; decorations, Faye Rose, Lora Carter and Elda Hall; re lief, Myrtle Whipple and Kath ryn Christenson, and Mattie Smith; historian, Elizabeth Shef field; membership, Dorothy Sie ger and Betty Carroll; kitchen, Cassie Golding, Chris Thornton and Letsy Miller; fancywork, Laura Lewis. A committee of three was formed, consisting of Beth Pot ter, Christine Thornton and Laura Nelson to accept sugges tions for ways and means. Plans were made for a card party at Grange hall on Satur day. February 4. Tickets will be made available early in the week. The committee in charge of the card party will meet at the home of Louise Dixon on Sunday at 2 p.m. Several of the men worked on the new hall Monday, Wednes day and Friday. It was suggested that the ladies furnish refresh ments for those who work in the evenings. Next H.E.C. meeting Is Febru ary 16. Gold Hill Grange Gold Hill Grange Initiated eight candidates January 19. Taking first and second degrees were Mr. and Mrs. Peter Twist. Mr. and Mrs. John R. Jore, Jo Anne Jore. Donald Elder, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Bruce. Visitors were Master Dee Hen- drickson and Mrs. Hendrickson, and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Lattie from Phoenix Grange. District Deputy William Howes and Mrs. Howes installed Mrs. Wallace McCloy as Ceres: Wallace Mc- Cloy on the executive commit tee;' Mrs. Earl Edwards, as Po mona. Master Gray thanked the new first and second degree staff for the splendid work they did, also all committees for their coopera tion, in decorations, floor work and tableaus. A home cooked food sale will be held at Shady Cove Market on Saturday, January 28, starting at 10 a.m. under joint sponsorship of Steelhead Post No. 0881 and Ladies Auxiliary, and the Upper Rogue Extension unit. Ladies from both organizations will as sist at the sale and everyone In thp cnmmunitv is timed to give donations of food for the sale. Proceeds will go to help in the polio March of Dimes drive. Dr. and Mrs. Verne Wilson of Camp White left by United Air lines for Los Angeles on Jan uary 20 to visit relatives. During the severe snowstorm of the 13th Sheldon Hughes of Elk Creek, Trail was held up in Klamath Falls due to bad roads and tumble to reach home. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Oliver and family made a trip to Los Angeles recently. Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Tucker of Trail left January 19 on a trip to Oklahoma to visit Mrs. Tucker's mother. Regular meeting of Shady Cove PTA has been postponed from Friday, January 20 to Friday. January 27 due to bad weather. This will be an afternoon meet ing starting at 1:30. F. J. Clif ford of Medford will furnish en tertainment for the afternoon. Everyone is urged to attend. Regular bi-monthly meeting of Steelhead Post No. 6881 VFW and Ladies Auxiliary was held Jannuary 18 at the Rogue River Lodge. The Auxiliary made plans for the coming home cooked food sale to be held at the Shady Cove Market on Saturday, January 28. Wayne Morse of Oregon was here today for a six-day visit dur ing the "campaign session" of the Hist congress, Morse said his absence from the senate would not affect his voting record for his ballot would be cast with Sen. Tobey's of New Hampshire. He said he thought the ap pointment of Gus J. Solomon to an Oregon federal judgeship would be confirmed by the sen ate. An American Bar associa tion charge that Solomon was ap pointed for political reasons in stead of ability did not contain a bill of particulars, Morse said. Oregon's junior republican sen ator said while in the state he would talk mainly about his vot ing record.
