In a letter to Buckle recently, A. A. Selander, appraisal engi neer, stated a Mr. Loggan would bring maps marked with all the appraisals of land and buildings in Rogue River, Gold Hill and Central Point, and leave them with the committees of those towns. "Mr. Loggan failed to come to Rogue River or to notify any of us so we could meet him in Med ford," said Buckle, "instead he left a map with the secretary of the equalization board in Gold Hill. But it is a replica of the map we have had tacked up in the Rogue River city hall since 1939, and that 10-year-old map shows only about 60 per cent of the appraised land and buildings in Rogue River. It does not show the silica plant, the power sta tion or the other property along Riverside drive. The sawmill is not on the map, neither are sev eral places north of town and nothing east of Wards creek. As for the map of school district No. 35 which we requested and which Loggan was to have dis cussed making from the records of the assessor's office, the com mittee has heard nothing fur ther of the matter. Roberts Of Attorneys for Estate MANZ ANITA Five Of Aga Khan Robbers Arrested Paris, Jim. 20 (U.R) French national police announced today they have arrested five mem bers of a gang which robbed the Aga Khan and his wife of $710, 000 in jewels on the Riviera last August. A sixth bandit and his mis tress were reported dead. It was believed they had been killed by the other gang members. Two men who received the stolen jewels from the gang have been identified and are being sought. None of the stolen jewels some 40 pieces of fabulous val ue given the begum by the aga have yet been recovered. They were said to be in the hands of, or perhaps disposed of by, the two men still being sought. A spokesman for the Surete Nationale said the arrests were made last night in Paris and Marseille. Sixth Army Head To Confer With Governor Salem, Ore., Jan. 20 (U.R) Lt. Gen. Albert C. Wedemeyer, Sixth army commander, is ex pected here January 27 to dis cuss defense problems with Gov. Douglas McKay. Gen. Wedemeyer will meet Gov. McKay and Oregon national guard officers in Portland Jan uary 26, and will inspect the Portland air base, national guard headquarters here said. Maj. Gen. Thomas Rilea, Oregon ad jutant general, will be host to Wedemeyer at a dinner the night of January 26. We feel that such an increase in valuations in the small towns without a similar increase in val uations in the surrounding coun ty ana tne large towns nas been very unfair," said Mr. Buckle. Starting April 1, the census taker will start counting. He'll knock may. be more than once on every door in the land to find out how many people we have in the U.S., what each person does lor a llv ing and how many mother hens in tne back yard. It's a thorough-going job. But your uncle has just admitted with a red face that in the last census, in 1040, he missed may be half a million noses. Those folks happened to be in hotels when the count was made. Your uncle corrects his mis takes. The department of commerce has announced that on April 11, we'll have what will be known as "T-nlght," or transient night. The government and the Am erican Hotel association had quite a fuss about it at first. Should the census people go around hammering on doors at all hours to route out hotel guests for a count of noses? Should the government tag folks as they went through revolving doors? The hotel men said "no," al though they had no right to be cause the uncle is the ruler and could do just that if he felt like it. So the hotels and the census people got together and devised a plan. Hotels that have 50 rooms or more cdme under the program if at least 20 per cent of the guests are transients. A person who registers on tne night of April 11 will get a cen sus form along with his key. It will be an Individual form not the family job which calls for all of the information back to the third generation. If the guest can t figure out how the form should be made out there will be a government man in the lobby to help him. The census bureau figures that the permanent residents already will have been tagged. Complications There will be complications, as there are in all big opera tions. Say a man comes in around check-out time and calls, the transportation desk to find when he can get a plane to Omaha. A half hour later, the desk calls this is on Anril 11. of course and says that the weather has lifted and he can get right out. ' Right there may be an un counted nose. And how about a nose being counted twice? Under the system, that s hard ly possible. Take a hypothetical case: A man comes into Washington on business from Urich, Mo.
