Adarel Chapter of Eastern Star Installs 1950 Officers in Jacksonville Ceremony Jacksonville Mrs. Ina Huson of 2374 Sunset court, Medford, was installed worthy matron of Adarel chanter. Order of fcastem Star, in ceremonies held at the Jacksonville Masonic hall the night of January 5. Other officers installed were Menno Bachmann, wormy pai ron; Mrs. W. B. Brill, associate matron; Wallace Brill, associate patron; Mrs. Bachmunn, secre tary: Mrs. J. A. Matthews, treas urer: Mrs. E. W. Installing officers were Mrs. Clinton Spencer, installing mat ron; Grant Todd, installing pat ron; Mrs. Ira Luman, honorary marshal; Mrs. H. M. Olson, in stalling marshall; Mrs. S. C. Peters, installing chaplain; Mrs. Frank Root, organist. For the ceremony Mrs. Huson wore a flown of teal blue crepe with silver accessories and a cor sage of orchids. After Mrs. Huson's Installa tion she was presented a gavel, a gift from the chapter. Myrtle wood gavels are the traditional gift of Adarel chapter to each matron. The gavels are made by Ernest Langley and have a hol low handle which contains a scholl for officers of the year to sign. , . Adarel' officers, in a special addendum, presented Mrs. Huson a beautiful copy of the ritual, and Mr. Bachmann with a mlnia ture gavel made by Mrs. Langley. Guests signed a special book which was circulated by the courtesy girls, chosen by the new matron. They are Mesdames Elton Waldron, captain; Fred Baker, Phillip Todd, Frances Taylor, Frank Janosky, Clarence H. Mathison. F. H. Everham, S. C. Peters, Herbert Taevcs, Orvcl Shores and Miss Ruth Winn. During the evening two songs wore sung by Mr. Bachmann. ac companied by Mrs. D. M. Blick enstaff and Mrs. Darell Huson also sang, accompanied by Mrs. Eva Marsh. Miss. Margaret nu- son gave two piano solos. Mrs. Herbert Thomas and Grant Todd were general co- chairmen in charge of arrange ments, and Mrs. Todd was pro gram chairman. Mrs. C. C. Sater, Mrs. Clarence H. Mathison ana Mrs. Joe Gregory made up the decorations committee and past matrons of the chapter took charge of refreshments. Chanter room aecoratlons were in silver and teal, the chos en colors of the new matron, and for the reception, table appoint ments were of teal, silver and orchid colored blossoms in cry stal bowls set on silver doilies that were a gift from Mrs. Hu son's niece in Milwaukee, Wis. The hand-painted nut cups were in teal and silver. Teal colored candles stood in antique crystal candle holders loaned by Mrs. Clarence H. Mathison. Poinsettias and silvered flow ers decorated the entrance hall, the poinsettias being a gift to Mrs. Huson from Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hoppe. University Women To Hear Officer John Richards, county Juve nile officer, will speak at the Jan uary 18 meeting of the Ameri can Association of University Women to be held at the home of Mrs. B. ' Installation Ceremony Held By Central Point Chapter Central Point A festive occasion in Central Point January 7 was tlie installation of officers elected and appointed to serve Ne vita chapter, Order of Eastern Star, for the coming year. The cere monies were held in the Masonic temple and the chapter room was attractively aecoratea in green and white, the choice of Mrs. Wal lace Frecland, incoming matron. About 350 members and friends attended. Star of Bethlehem and the wise men had been drawn by Miss Jan f reeman, honored queen of Job s Daughters. Central Point, and hung in the east framed by cur tains of green. This chosen color of green was used for the gown worn by the new worthy matron and also those worn by the cour tesy girls. The theme for the year is taken from the Bible and the signifi cant story of Martha and is em- ooaiea in the mree words, ue lievest Thou This?" Plastic columns had been ar ranged at the station of each star point, and the white flowers and sprays of ferns seen through the columns gave a hint of the spring season. Mrs. Freeland and her corps of officers were installed at ceremonies held in the Cen tral Point Masonic temple January 7, with about 350 members and friends present for the installation and the reception which fol lowed. Miss Caroline Freeland, junior princess of bethel 38 escorted the flag. During the installation rites special solos were given by Mrs. Edwin Andren, Mrs. C. R. Adam son and Mrs. Marjorie Hopkins, the last song being dedicated to Mr. Brenner by his wife. Miss Carlotta Wiseman gave musical selections, one number being ded icated to Mrs. Freeland. Three special addenda were given. The first entitled, "Wel come to Our Worthy Matron, and given by the 1950 officers was written by Mrs. Head, asso ciate matron, for Mrs. Freeland, an ardent and successful garden er who operates her own green house. However, Mrs. Head was ill and could not attend the cere monies and will be installed at a later date. Mrs. Day, conduct ress, acted for Mrs. Head. The star points, with flower pots representing the colors of the ray of each point, told in the form of a riddle what seed had been planted in each container, the flowers to be in the star col ors. In addition a miniature greenhouse was presented, this, being the handiwork of Mr. Head. , Next addendum was "The Cross of Service" presented by choir members ol jnh's njniuhter of Central Point The girls, wearing robes, formed a double cross of sufficient width in onuMe Mrs Freeland to be conducted into the inner lines by Miss Freeman, honored queen. Among the distinguished guests were Mrs. Margaret Barnes, past worthy grand matron of Grants Pass; Mrs. Lorena McNair, Ash land, a past worthy grand matron and Grant Todd, Medford, mem ber of the budget committee of the grand chapter, and numerous guests from all southern Oregon chapters were present. A reception followed the cere monies, with Mrs. Faber, Mr. Vincent and chapter officers in the receiving line. The serving table was covered with green taf feta which served as a back ground for white tapers and blos soms and refreshments in green and white. Mrs. Orville Hamilton was refreshment chairman, and Mrs. Lee Pelrice and Mrs. Clar ence Chew were responsible for the dining room decorations. Mrs. Merritt Swing and Mrs. Raj Anders were chairmen in charge of chapter room decorations. Pouring were Mrs. Lee Peirce and Mrs. Leonard Freeman, and Mrs. Howard Jewett acted as hostess. Order of Eastern Star, held Its 50th annual Installation of officers recently at the Medford Masonic temple, and later this year a formal celebration of the chapter'! golden an niversary will be held. Fiftieth Installation Held By Medford Chapter of OES Manv fraternal orders of the citv traditionally hold the an nual installation of officers in the month of January, and several of these have been held in recent days. Of special significance was the Installation Dinner Held Monday Evening By Toastmistress Club Mrs. Marjorie Hopkins was In stalled president of Medford Toastmistress club in ceremon ies held Monday evening during a dinner at the First Methodist church. Mrs. Hopkins is one of the charter members of the club. Others taking office were Mrs. F. J. Runtz, vice president; Mrs. Florence Foster, secretary, and Mrs. James J. Boyle, treasurer. The retiring officers are Mrs. C. A. Thatcher, president; Mrs. Elizabeth Settle, vice-president; Mrs. Edith Uakor. secretary and Miss Dolores Yunker, treasurer. During the program Mrs. Boyle talked on Manufacture of Play Shoes." Miss Hazel Swayne on "Lullaby" and Mrs. George Mc Intyre on "Remaking the World.'' Mrs. W. T. Later this year a formal ceremony will mark the golden anniversary of the chapter. Taking office as worthy ma tron and worthy patron were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Purdin, and inducted as associate matron and patron were Mr. and Mrs. John Smith. Mrs. I. D. Canfield is the retiring matron, and George Thomas the retiring patron. Mrs. L. G. Frink was installing matron assisted by Mrs. Bessie Lumsden. Mrs. Lumsden holds a unique posii:n ill the chapter since she is a charter member and has been active for almost all of the group's 50-year his tory. Following Mrs. Purdin's installa tion, she was escorted to her sta tion by her courtesy girls. In the group this year are Mrs. George Jacobs, captain; Mrs. John Esp, Mrs. Gene Stout, Mrs. A. C. Fries, Mrs. Mark Taylor, Mrs. Henry Halversen, Mrs. Carl Mey ers, Mrs. Lloyd Caton, Mrs. R. K. Rians Sr., Mrs. E. W. Brown, Mrs. V. M. Califf, Miss Pauline Champlin, Mrs. Earl Knight, Mrs. Glen Jerden, Mrs. L. O. Boomer, Mrs. M. L. Cash, Mrs. James Wicker, Mrs. Stanley Morgan, Mrs. H. L. Alford and Mrs. Harold Hubler. In keeping with the 50th an niversary theme, all officers of the chapter except the matron wore gold colored gowns. For the ceremony Mrs. Purdin wore a frock of pale blue satin with or chid corsage. Following installation of the elective officers, Mrs. Donn Piatt sang and Menno Bachmann of Jacksonville sang as the star points were escorted. Following the addresses of the new matron and patron, Mrs. Howard Bush sang, with Mrs. Eva Marsh as accompanist. Flowers were presented to the new matron by Ralph Lue from the Scottish Rite Masons, and he also made a presentation to Mr. Purdin. Past matrons of the chap ter staged an addendum during which they presented a gift to the retiring matron, Mrs. Can field, and Mrs. Purdin received a gift from her 1950 officers during an addendum. At this time Mrs. Fred Strang sang a special song, composed on the anniversary theme. Special guests included Mrs. Margaret Barnes, Grants Pass, a past worthy grand matron of Oregon, and Mrs. Everett Faber, Central Point, member of a ?.rand chapter committee. Mrs. Purdin also introduced Mr. Pur din's mother, Mrs. Rena B. Pur din, and the Purdin's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Chamberlain. Mrs. Canfield presented Mr. Thomas his past patron's pin and he in turn presented Mrs. Can field with a past matron's jewel. The benediction was pro nounced by H. F. W. Spilver. Following the Installation ceremony, attended by more than 350 persons, a reception was held .Serving tables were arranged in the form of a large five-pointed star and the center piece was a revolving tier of colored stars with figurines of the matron and patron on top. Five large candles in the star colors surrounded the center piece and a ceiling spotlight ac cented the entire scene. i Courtesy girls, wearing special blue and white aprons and caps, acted as hostesses?. ; Chapter room decorations were baskets of chrysanthemums and at each star point station pedestals were twined with ivy studded with metallic stars. 1?
