FOUR MEDFORD (OREGON) Lady Elks Plan Tea ' Saturday Afternoon , For Visiting Wives A tea for Lady Elks whose hus bands will be attending the mid winter session of the Oregon State Elks' association, to be held in Ashland January 20 and 21, has been planned by the Lady Elks of Medford and Ashland. It will be held Saturday, January 21 in the party lounge of the Medford Elks temple and is set for 2 p.m. Following the tea bridge, can asta, pinochle and bingo will be ployed. All Lady Elks are extended a cordial invitation to attend. Medford Lady Elks will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 17 In the nartv lounge of the Elks temple for dessert, followed by bridge, canasta, pinochle and DOOl. Hostesses will be Mrs. J. F. Moore. Mrs. J. W. Bates, Mrs. Wm. Young, Mrs. Claude Hoover and Mrs. J. L. uucKeii. Seal Sale Reports . Made At Meeting A business meeting was held by the Medford unit of the Jack son County Public Health asso ciation Tuesday iollowlng luncn eon at the Rogut Valley Country club. Mrs Paul Skinner, who has replaced Mrs. Walter Graff as president, conducted the meet ing. Mrs. Dwight Findlcy, presi dent of the county association, reported on the annual seal sale of the association and thanked members of the Medford unit for their work. She stated that an additional 4.000 names had been handled in the closing days of the campaign. A letter from Mrs. Claude Thompson, county seal sale chairman, was read in which Mrs. Thompson congratulated the Medford group on its cam paign efforts. Reports were also given by Mrs. Aubrey Sander, chairman of booth sales this year, and Mrs. Bayard Getchcl, treasurer. Mrs. Sander stated that booth sales fell off sharply this year, with only about 50 per cent of last year's total having been realized. Mrs. Getchell stated, however, that when funds have been re alized. Mrs. Getchell stated, how that when funds have been received from people who still have not made their annual con tribution, it was believed the to tal would be adequate. The Medford group now plans to hold monthly meetings throughout the year, rather than only during the period preceding and during the annual seal sale, and the February meeting will be in the home of Mrs. William Barker, with Mrs. Charles Barnes as co-hostess. Plan Dimes Dance For Country Club Scheduled as a benefit for the annual "March of Dimes," a dance will be given at the Rogue Valley Country club Monday, January 30. The dance will be in formal, and is for members and out-of-towns guests. In addition to dancing, there will be games and prizes, and supper will be served. THEY'RE NEW . . Childreth of Jacksonville Star Jacksonville Girl, Winford Osborne Married In Phoenix Jacksonville Miss Anita Rae Backes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Backes. Jacksonville, be came the bride of Winford Dale Osborne, son of Mr. and Mrs. Syl vester usporne, Talent, January 12 at 8 p.m. The wedding was performed in the Nazarene church, Phoenix and The Rev. Henry C. Lacy officiated. Fred Hall sang accompanied by Mrs. John M. Kby. The bride's dress was of gray taffeta and her accessories were green. She wore an orchid cor sage. Miss Donna Jean Lacy, bridesmaid, wore a navy blue taf feta dress willi black accessories. Her corsage was of yellow rose buds. Don Lacy, Medford, acted as best man. About 35 guests attended the wedding. The couple will live in Phoenix. Ashland Girl Wed To Darrell McNeill In December Rites Miss Barbara McCleary, daugh daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rov C McCleary, 478 Allison street, Ashland, became the bride of uarrell James McNeill in a cere mony read Christmas day at five .tuvn in inc niiciuuuil HI IUU home of the bride's parents. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Childreth, Jackson ville Star route. Mr. McClearv cave his daueh- ter in marriage and the Rev. Leo Wines performed the double-ring ceremony. The bride's dress was fashion ed from ice blue satin and her corsage was a white orchid. Mrs James L. Ford, matron-of-honor, wore an aquamarine creoe dress, Both tlie mother of the bride and the bridegroom wore dark suits with baby orchid corsages for Die ceremony. About 20 guests attended the reception which followed at the McCleary home. Holiday decora tions were used, with white chrysanthemums, poinsettins and snapdragons. T h e refreshment table was laid with a hand- crocheted lace table cloth made especially for the occasion by llio bridegroom s mother, and crystal table service was used. Mrs. John C Sears poured ami Mrs. Kord cut the wedding cake. The bride's going-away suit was grey with grey accessories and she wore her wedding orchid. The bride was graduated from high school in Ashland and the bridegroom, who attended school in Medford later served two years in the United States navy. He is now employed at White City. Councilman To Speak For Junior High Unit At Meeting Thursday Dwight Houghton, local bank er and member of the city coun cil will be speaker of the eve ning at the Medford junior high school Parent-Teacher associa tion meeting Thursday, January 19, in the girls' gymnasium at 8 p.m. Mr. Houghton's subject will be "City Government. Finance and City Problems." The school orchestra under direction of Miss Melba Chchak will furnish music. A special invitation has been extended by officers of the association to the fathers of jun ior high school children to at tend the meeting, since plans now under way to form a hobby club will be discussed. Hosts for the evening will be the parents of children from the rooms of Larry Brunette. Mrs. Agnes Deiver and Mr. McLean. Refreshments will be served at the close of the meeting. Announces Mooting Mrs. Orville Shores will enter tain members of the Oak Grove Neighborhood club at her home on Jacksonville highway Tues day, January 17, at 1:30 p.m. A dessert luncheon will be served. .- 1 1 i-'k -3x1 Sojourners' Club Holds First Meeting With New Officers First meeting of the new year for Medford Sojourners' club was held Thursday at the Medford hotel. Fifty-two members ana prospective members were pres ent to welcome the new offic ers, and to participate In the club's social activities. The new president, Mrs. E. A. Stout was introduced by a past president, Mrs. Clay Lee, and presented a corsage of white gladioli, a gift from the club. Mrs. Stout then introduced her corns of new officers who will assist her during the next six months. They are Mrs. Frank Cantrill, first vice-president; Mrs. Jack Langdon, second vice-president; Mrs. J. N. Shoemaker, sec retary and Mrs. Ralph Krows. treasurer. Prospective members welcom ed were Mesdames C. L. Nelson, J. I. Bacon, J. H. Fisher, L. G. McLaren, S. S. McLaren, and J. H. Gralcn. Mrs. E. L. Bunnell was accepted as a new member. Hostesses for the afternoon In charKe of the dessert luncheon and cards were Mrs. Jack Wed die, Mrs. William Shei, and Mrs. Vest Flceman. Bridge winners were Mrs. Carl Mundon. Mrs. N. F. Reed, and Mrs. James Grigsby. Those win nine at ninochle were Mrs. W. A. Sabel, S. C. Jones Jr., and Vest Fleeman. Mrs. Oral Freemeyer was another winner during the afternoon. Shrine Club Plans Annual Dinner-Dance Monday In Ashland One of the large events of this week will be the annual ladies' night dance given by the Jack son County Shrine club. The dance Is set for Monday, Janu ary 16 at the Elks' temple in Ashland. A refreshment hour will be held from 7 to 9 p. m. and din ner will be served at 9 o'clock, with dancing to follow. A special guest will bo Her man Mayberry, Ashland, illus trious potentate of Hillah tem ple, and Mrs. Mayberry. Herbert Huston of Ashland is president of the club and J. H. Fitzgerald, Medford, is secretary. After coming to Oregon in 1913, he continued tanning in Talent, until 1944 when they moved to their present home in Medford. Both are active mem bers of the Methodist church. Republican Women To Meet Monday January meeting of Jackson County Republican Women will be held Monday. January 16. at the Jackson hotel. Mrs. Marshall K. Refreshments will be served and all members and friends are invited. 2T nflTiontu' fissociflTion & QUaneM New Organization Will Raise Money For Armory Rooms Representatives from mili tary, fraternal and business or ganizations met at the Apple inn Friday evening to organize for the purpose of raising money to furnish two rooms at the Med ford armory. The two rooms will each seat approximately 200 persons and if properly fur nished will make excellent meet ing places for many of the city's clubs that have outgrown their club rooms, it is thought. There is also a dining room and kitchen available to organizations using the meeting rooms. Mrs. Hazel van der Mark was elected to serve as chairman of the group, and Earl Sterigere was chosen as co-chairman to as sist In the fund raising projects. Mrs. Tom Ginn acted as secre tary. Next meeting of the group will be held in the armory Feb ruary 1. Any organizations interested in this citv wide projects are in vited to send two representatives to the next meeting. Annual Tea Planned By Methodist Women On Friday Afternoon An event looked forward to bv members and friends of the Methodist Woman's Society of Christian Service is the annual membership tea. which will this vear be held in the home of Mrs. G. Corbet and Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Murray. Mr. Corbet was unable to attend because of illness. About 25 persons attended and canasta and pinochle furnished entertainment for the evening.' Mr. and Mrs. Murray will leave soon to live in California, and Mr. and Mrs. Corbet will leave the latter part of January for Corvallis to make their home. Mrs. Murray is a junior graduate regent of the lodge and Mrs. Corbet was an officer until her recent resignation. Mrs. Dewey Gearin was In charge of refreshments for the evening. Women of the Moose will meet Monday, January 16, in the in the Mose hall, at 8 p.m. for initiation.
