The information Is not technical, but was prepared to assist small gardeners who wish to grow a few vegetables for home use. . This bulletin will be sent free to anyone requesting it or It may be obtained by calling at the extension service office in the courthouse. Gardens Still Needed To Bolster Supply - With the current food situa tion In other countries very cfit- Ical, American home gardeners have been asked to again pro duce all the garden stuff possi ble. This will release the com mercial to produce more for export. The present objective Is to have a garden on every farm and for every city home where suitable land is available. The garden, where possible, should be large enough to produce suf ficient vegetables for fresh use and for canning to meet the fam ily requirements for good nutri tion and health. C. B. Cordy Assistant County Agent 4-H Members Asked To Grow' Gardens .The 4-H club members are asked to grow a victory garden wherever it is possible this year, in order to help feed the peo ple of the world. This need not be an individual garden. A part of the home garden can be plant ed and cared for by thj club member. This might be an exten sion of rows of the same vege tables to facilitate easy cultiva tion. Vegetables grown can be shown at the county and state fairs for cash prizes, also the club members records may be enter ed in the National Victory Gar den contest in which eight sec tional winners in the United States receive a free trip to the National 4-H Club Congress at rhicago and a $100 war bond 4-H club victory gardeners are also eligible for membership in the National Junior Vegetable Growers' association. This asso ciation makes three $100 awards in the western section: 16 $200 awards over the United States and a grand prize of a $500 scholarship to the national champion. The boy suffered a bad head in jury .in the accident and after receiving attention here was taken to a Portland specialist. He remained unconscious for many days. . It is reported that the boy has recovered with the exception of regaining the power of speech, but physicians are of the opinion that he will be able to learn to talk again. Aubrey Norris showed moving pictures of the McDonald Basin country as an entertainment fea ture and refreshments were serv ed by members of the Evening Guild of St. Mark s church. 100 EXPENSIVE Klamath Fells, Feb. 28 A proposal to make a community center out of the USO building here was virtually abandoned Wednesday, after unfavorable ac tion was taken by the city re creation committee. The committee cold-shouldered the proposition after it was learned the costs for rent, light, water, heat and janitor service would exceed $1000 a month. Committeemen decided this was too much to ask taxpayers to put up for temporary quarters. Mayor Ed Ostendorf told the committee that several small tax levies for other purposes will undoubtedly be on the ballot, further lessening the possibility that a levy for the community center would pass.
