TUTTLE OFFERS
FLIGHT TRAINING

View Drive, haa announced open

the south city limits. Tuttle,
who will call the business the
Medford Air Service, has a new
Piper Special 1946 model two-
place cabin trainer. The owner
said he would offer student in
struction, charter and passenger
flights and will have the dealer
ship for Piper, Swift and Bal
lanca aircraft.
Tuttle, who Is a reserve offi
cer in the air corps, was an in
structor at Medford Municipal
airport before the war and is a
graduate of an RAF flying
school and took airlines training
at the Pennsylvania Central Air
lines in Washington, D. C. Later
the World War II Veteran was
instructor in transition and in
strument flying for various
kinds of army craft. He flew
planes to the European theater
of operations and for a time was
assistant director of instrument
training at Memphis.
His commercial license In'
eludes all types of aircraft up
to and Including the C-47 with
instruction and instrument rat
ing. Tuttle has been flying
about Ti years and said he has
about 2,300 hours flying time.

Builds Elaborate
Setting for Play
Southern Oregon College,
Ashland, Feb. 11 The play
production class at the Southern
Oregon College Is constructing
one of the most elaborate sets
ever to be seen at SOCE. The
set which is being constructed
for the production "Guest In
House.' to be produced in the
auditorium, March 15 and 16,
portrays the living room of the
Proctor home, and involves con
struction of a large stairway
and balcony effect.
The production crew includes
several ex-service men whose
merience In construction In
the European and Pacific thea
trcs of war is a valuable asset
in the construction of such com-
nllcated stage scenery.

fine day of sunshine Friday over
an inch of snow- fell early Satur
day. Logging and sawmill

of the army air forces today

II, will retire soon to the quiet
Sonoma county, Calif., farm
where he has threatened to shoot
down any airplane that comes
within range.
Both men were pioneer fliers
In the days when the army's air

today that the Japanaese occu
pation zone would be opened to
army wives and families on or
about May 1 and expressed hope
that congress would provide free
transportation for all ranks.
Prospective immigrants were
warned that living conditions In

Probably only a quirk of fate
prevented an Oakland police
man from shooting his own
nephew as a car thief suspect
here early today when he and
fellow officer pursued two
teen-aged boys in a stolen car.
Patrolmen Marshall F. Peter
son and Frank J. Curran spot
ted the two boys in a car which
had been reported stolen and
finally forced them to the curb
after a wild chase.
When the boys jumped from
the car and fled on foot officer
Peterson chased one while Cur
ran raced after the other. Peter
son returned to the car after
failing to catch the boy and
found that Officer Curran had
wounded and captured the
other youth who was Peter
sons own nephew.
COYOTE POISON OUT
IN DEAD INDIAN AREA
Poison will be put out for
coyotes Wednesday in section 13,
township 37 3 E, three-quarters
mile north of Dead Indian Re
sort, according to John Walch,
rancher of the Lake Creek area.
The region is known as the East
Powder spring to all stockmen,
Walch said. Persons in the area
are asked to keep dogs and live
stock away from the region
where the poison is to be dis
tributed.

fic but while at the Marseille
staging area that conflict ended
and the engineers came home
from. Camp Lucky Strike, Nor
mandy. From this camp, by the
way, it was easy to see the in
teresting sights of LaHavre,
Rowen and Dieppe, to say noth
ing of Paris.
The men were even lucky dur
ing training, having been sta
tioned at a camp convenient to
Palm Beach and Miami, Fla.,
after activation to infantry and
engineering tactics. Under re
cent War department rulings,
the majority of the original per
sonnel of the outfit will return
to civilian life by summer.

Spokane, Wash., Feb. 11 (U.R)
Four children of the George
Locher family died early today
in a fire that swept through their
ho.ne in the foothills district 14
miles east of here.
Mr. and Mrs. Locher and their
4-year-old son, Donald, were
slightly burned. An 18-month-old
baby was left unharmed.
The dead, reported by Deputy
Sheriff Lou Johnson, were Ar
lene Helen, 7; Henry Walter, 6;
Virginia, 4, and Carroll Locher 3.
A seventh child, a daughter, was
in Spokane when the blaze broke
out.
Deputy Johnson said that as
far as he could learn the fire
was caused by an overheated
stove.
