To Tour Panama The Yankees will go direct from here to Miami after which headquarters will be established in St. Petersburg, Fla., and the team will begin an, elaborate training tour to the Panama Canal zone. The Yankees also will go "deep In 'he heart of Texas" in their tour of the sunny side of the Mason-Dixon line. There were 13 Yankees along with Manager Joe McCarthy in the group that left New York today. They will be joined by 19 more players and Coach John Schulte and Trainer Ed Froe lich at Miami. To Go By Plane The Panama trip will begin on Feb. 9 when the combined party will go by plane to the Cartel zone for a series of 11 games with U. S. army and local professional teams. The Yankees now have, but six players left on their nation al defense list, but most are top performers Most sorely needed are third baseman Billy Johnson, rookie of the year in 1943, and outfielder Johnny Lindell, who was developing into one of the team's top hitters when he went in after the 1944 season. Others yet to be discharged are outfielder Roy Weatherly, and pitchers Charley Wensloff, Al Lyons and Vince Diblasi. Welter Champ To Take Needed Rest New York, Feb. 7 (U.PJ Marty Servo, new welterweight champion who is leaving today for a brief Florida vacation, said that he probably would meet the winner of tomorrow's Johnny Greco-Beau Jack fight soon in a non-title bout. Servo will not risk his crown until May 24 when he opposes Ray (Sugar) Robinson In a 15 round title bout at the Garden. However, he said he expected to engage in at least one tune up bout before the title test. Brooklyn Signs 3 National Loop Men New York, Feb. 7 U.R) Four football players, three from the rival National league, were signed today to play with Brook lyn's entry in the All-American professional conference next sea son. Two of the players, William Kane and Jesse Dow, are half backs and the others, Vic Beck and Johnny Durko are tackles, although Durko doubles at end. Lynam, who won the first fall when Lipscomb refused to break a reverse headlock, showed no mercy on his heavier foe in tak ing the second in four minutes and 15 seconds of the fourth round with a body stretch. Ly nam, coast champion, was so angered at Lipscomb's dirty work that Referee Wally Moss had to hold the champ for more than a minute after the match ended to let him "cool off." Pete BfJcastro's over-anxiety cost him his match with popu lar Pierre LaBelle In the semi- windup. LaBelle took the first fall in the second round with sonnenburgs, a drop kick and body press but Pete evened the score in the third with upper cuts and a press. Belcastro threw LaBelle out of the ring in the fourth round and when he wouldn't let him return, Moss stopped the bout. Sgt. Bob Kenaston of Gold Hill made his return to the mat a success as he drew a heavy round of applause in his match with Gust Johnson. They went to a draw in the opener, each taking a fall. Kenaston showed considerable speed and crafts manship and a lot of his former fire. Promoter Mack Llllard an nounced that Cowboy Dude Chick will be on next Wednes day night's card. Richmond High At Rifle Club Shoot Clyde Richmond shot a 376 to lead 15 shooters at the Med ford Rifle club range Wednes day night. Five women were among those taking part in the weekly practice firing. Phil Whitlock grabbed second place with a 375 while Ed Lull End Max Terzenbach tied for third with 371. Sam Jones was fourth with 367. The article, entitled "The Hermits Who Hate Hollywood' is spiced with a number of leg endary tales, some of which date back to the country's earliest settlers and have been repeated in varying forms for years, and is illustrated with a number of colored photographs of prospec tors, fishermen and Grants Pass bathing beauties. Fishing Described The Rogue's fabulous fishing is given proper space by the writer and she describes how sportsmen come from all over the world to shoot the rapids from Grants Fass to Gold Beach. Gathering considerable mater ial from the lower Rogue sec tion, Miss Muir tells how Mule Creek canyon, where the Rogue sweeps for two miles through a canyon so narrow that it is only 10 feet wide in spots, pro tects from the outside world the inhabitants of a quarter million acres of forest. There, says Miss Muir, bears outnumber the in habitants 10 to one and both the bears and the people like it that way. Writing of the hermits she quotes a resident as saying "All they do is sit down and hate people.
