Balancing Canine
Carries 14 Foot
Poles Across Back
"Stub," four-year-old terrier
belonging to Roy Vamer, dis
dains to play with small sticks
like other dogs. Instead, Stub
balances long poles across his
back, working at the game until
he gets the pole just In the right
spot to balance.
Varner proves his story by dis
playing two pictures of the dog,
carrying long poles across his
back, one of the poles measur
ing about 14 feet. The dog, own
ed by Varner since small pun,
always showed more than usual
interest In playing with sticks,
according to his owner, and
eventually learned the trick of
carrying the poles. Stub Is part
terrier and part bull dog.
Varner, who lives at Route
4, Box 301A, is quite sure Stub
Is the only amateur pole-balancing
dog In the nation.
