ARE YOU TIT In your answer to a query you said both prospective partners should be examined by a physi cian and be guided by the physician' ad vice in regard to the pro posed mar riage. Does that apply to any other con dition than tu berculosis? (W. J.) Every well governed state Dr. Brady or province now requires applicants for a li cense to marry to present a health certificate from a physi cian. The laws differ somewhat in various states or provinces as to just what the test or examina tion shall determine. If you contemplate marriage you should both be examined by a physician and proceed with the plans only if the physician finds you both fit to marry. This is in one way a kind of assurance of a happy, successful marriage. At least it may avert a tragic out come. In the query to which you re fer the reader said the prospec tive partner "was born with T. B. of the lungs" but "is now about over it and safe to be around." That seems a poor foundation on which to build a family. But for every marriage that comes to grief because husband or wife was unfit by reason of unrecognized tuberculosis of the lung, there are probably 50 that bring unhappiness and suffering to the wife particularly by rea son of uncured, chronic or smouldering gonorrhea which is usually the contribution of the husband. Gonorrheal peritonitis, pelvic inflammation, inflammation of tube or ovary, occurring as a series of attacks, beginning sev eral weeks or months after birth of the one, often only child (since the mother is sterilized by occlu sion or destruction of the Fal lopian tubes by the infection), brings hundreds of wives to the operating room for removal of the tubes ("pus tubes") and most of this could be prevented if issuance of the marriage li cense were contingent upon rea sonable assurance that the appli cant has no communicable dis ease. Doctors have a term for it "one-child sterility". That does not mean 'that this is the only cause of one-child sterility. But it is a terribly common cause, and when viewed together with the disgraceful depravity of the divorce laws we have in this country, it is enough to nause ate you, isn't it? Approximately one person In twenty-five is natural ly left-handed. Cheese Price Jump Due After Feb. 1 Washington, Jan. 23 (U.P.) Housewives will have to pay 3.75 cents more a pound for Cheddar cheese Feb. 1 as a re sult of the removal of the gov ernment's subsidy to manufac turers.
