Mr. and Mrs. Fitzgerald plan to build a home if they do not find one for rent. They are former Medford resi dents. Vosi Returns Vern Voss, re cently discharged service veter an, has arrived in Medford to return to his former position as shop instructor at the Junior High school. Voss is preparing the 6hop and courses for the new semester, beginning Jan. 28. according to E. H. Hedrlck, city school superintendent. Shop Instruction was not offered at the school the first semester of this year due to the lack of an instructor. Discharged William P. ON PERSONAL In Berkeley Miss Nancy Huff, program director at the Riverside USO, is to return next week from Berkeley, Calif., af ter spending a three-weeks annual leave visiting at the home of her mother. Sailor Discharged Harvey Rowden, who served as a sea man first class in the Navy and was in the Pacific area for 18 months, was discharged at Bremerton, Wash., January 16 and has returned to Medford. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Rowden, 292 Berrydale avenue. Rowden, in the Navy two years, served in the armed guard. Lees Return Dr. and Mrs. Robert E. Lee have returned from an extended vacation in Arizona and Southern Califor nia, several weeks of which was spent at Monte Vista Guest ranch near WickenDurg, Ariz. Their return was hastened by the departure soon of Robert E. Lee, Jr., for . the mid-term at Pacific University. Dr. Lee will be in his office Monday. . Fltzslmmons On Furlough Pvt. Haroldlee Fitzsimmons, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Fitzsim mons, route 2, box 3S3C, is spending a 15-day furlough at the family home after complet ing basic army training at Camp Roberts, Calif. Fitzsimmons, who will report to Ft. Ord, Calif., Feb. 7 for overseas as signment, completed studies in telegraphy and was graduated as a fh-6t class message center clerk. Miss Buckingham graduated from the hospital corps school at Bethesda, Md., Jan. 8, and has been here to visit her mother. Mrs. Laura Albertz, 236 South Central avenue. Groves Discharged Mr. and Mrs. Jack V. Groves arrived in Medford Friday from, Atlanta, Ga., and are making their home with his mother, Mrs. Claire Groves, 1716 North Riverside avenue. Groves, a former cor poral in the army air corps, re ceived an honorable discharge from the service in Rome, Ga., where he nad been stationed as a discharge councilor. He spent 37 months in the army and at tended Columbia University in New York for some time. Groves is a former employe with Beck's bakery. Auto Mishaps Cars operated by Charles A. Robeson, route 3 and J. T. Coffman, route 4, col lided on hglhway 99 Friday morning causing considerable damage to both autos, according to accident reports filed with city police. Icy pavement was given as cause of the accident. Police investigated a second accident at 3:30 a. m. yesterday when a car operated by Claude P. Slaughter, 30 South Central avenue, overturned at the inter section of Central and Riverside avenues, it was reported yester day. Marjorie Meyers and John Wilkinson, Crater Hotel, passen gers, suffered slight scratches, officers reported. Damage esti mated at $200 was caused the car, according to a report filed later. Card Returns Roger E. Card, who has been serving on Oki nawa with the navy, arrived in Medford Thursday after having been discharged at Bremerton under the point system. Card, whoso rating was carpenter's mate second class, Is a son of Mr. and Mrs. G. O. Sanden, 304 South Central avenue. He has been in the navy three years. His brother, Gage Sanden, EM 1c, who has been here to visit relatives, has returned to his ship, the USS Solomons, at Jack sonville, Fla. The Sanden's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Stoll and son, Gary Lee, have left for their home in Taylor, Tex., and another daughter, Mrs. Dale McMullin and son. Dale, Jr., have returned to Cottage Grove after spending the holidays in Medford. Dick Applegate Going To Manila For United Press Richard Applegate. son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Applegate, 615 South Oakdale, has been pro moted to foreign correspondent in the United Press service, ac cording to word received Satur day by his parents. Applegate is to leave the last of January for Manila where he will serve for a time and later will be assigned at Singapore. The former Medford man has been in thj United Press service for several years, having joined that company while employed as sports writer for the Mall Tribune. He was discharged from the navy in October after 3 Vi years service and visited his parents last fall with his bride. Mrs. Applegate will remain in Los Angeles with friends until her huband Is able to secure accommodations in Manila.
