Auto Mishaps Considerable
damage was caused a car operat
ed by Cleo O. Mayfield, 22 Rose
avenue, Friday night when it
struck the curbing and sign post
at. the Oakdale avenue and Sec
ond street intersection, accord
ing to an accident report at city
police headquarters. Mayfield's
auto was forced off the street
to avoid an oncoming car, the re
port said. Also damaged Friday
evening when they collided at
Main and Holly streets were cars
driven by B. F. Russell, 429

Thorndike Home Bill Thorn
dike, former corporal in the In
fantry, arrived in Medford Fri
day and is with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Eugene Thorndike,

dike was overseas for 21 months,
serving first under Gen. Chas.
H. Gerhardt In the 29th Infantry
division and for the last few
months before returning home
was with the military govern
ment unit at Weisbaden, Ger
many, and assisted at the trials
of a number of war criminals.
The young man was wounded
during one of the battles in Bel
gium and was hospitalized for
about two months. He plans to
re-enter Oregon State college for
the spring term.
