Jehovah Witnesses Upheld in Peddling Religious Papers Washington, Jan. 8 (U.R) The supreme court in separate rulings today set aside convic tions of two members of the Jehovah's Witnesses faith who distributed religious literature in government and private hous ing projects. Justice Hugo L. Black, who wrote both opinions, held that "certainly neither congress nor federal agencies acting pursuant to congressional authorization may abridge freedom of press and religion safeguarded by the first amendment." Each decision was by a vote of 5 to 3. Chief Justice Harlan Fiske Stone and Justices Stan ley Reed and Harold H. Burton dissented. This other Cub was coming down with cri and he cough ed constantly during the pro initi. This Dr. Brady would not have been so annoying had the poor kid s mother shown any courtesy or consideration for the health of those within range of her ailing Cub. Unfortunately the ailing Cub's mother was an ignorant woman and so It never occurred to her to teach he son to cover his mouth and nose with handkerchief or hand when he coughed. The ignorant wom an Just sat there while the ail ing youngster splashed and sprayed whatever he had all over the persons sitting within a yard or two of him. suppose, ror instance, it was meningitis or infantile paralysis or measles, or scarlet fever it might have been any of these Common Respiratory Infections (CRI), you know. It is such little lnsignit icant incidents that ac count for most epidemics. I say the ailing Cub's mother was an ignorant woman. For all I know she may have gradu ated from high school and col lege with honors and she may be a teacher of English or arith metic or a lecturer on Eliza bethan literature or an editor of a popular magazin'e. But she is an ignorant woman and she doesn't mind showing her ignor ance. Now suppose some one had approached the ignorant woman there in the schoolroom, tapped her on the shoulder and beck oned her outside, to tell her, gently but firmly, to take her little ailing Cub and get to go home at once. Probably the Ignorant woman would have been highly indignant and in sisted that the child had just n trifling "cold." That is a favor ite, almost a conventional ex cuse and too often such offend ers get away with it. Even .hough this little Cub did not cough at all, he was a menace to every one who hnp penea to be within his spray range conversational sprav The minute invisible droplets of moisture given off from the mouth when a person talks may carry up to five feet.
