TWO MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE TufdT. Jn- 8. 1948 Dover To Inspect Oil Land Hold ings Rofue River, Jan. 8 Floyd X. Dover, president of the Jack ton Count Mining Association, has been called to Montana due to new discoveries In the Cat Creek oil field. As superintend ent and chief engineer for an Oregon company with large holdings In the Cat Creek field, Mr. Dover will meet with the group In Portland before leaving for Montana. The Oregon com pany will drill off-set wells, as the seven new wells brought In during December are from 250 to 800 feet from the property line of the Oregon company. Mr. Dover plans to make the round trip by plane. At the meeting of the Willa mette Democratic Society In Portland Jan. 10, Mr. Dover will be guest speaker, leaving imme diately after luncheon for Montana. ' f '':' I Russell Ulrich stated today, Young Ulrich was recently released from the navy after four and one-half years of service, his Inst assignment be ing at Clark Field in the Philip pine islands where he was at tached to fleet air wing 17 as a typhoon observer. ' A graduate of Medford high school and the University of WnshinRton, Ulrich received his aerological training at the Na val Academy at Annapolis. Mr. Ulrich and his wife left for Seattle Inst week after spending the holidays with his parents here. Prineville Lad To Symbolize Children Who Have Had Polio Portland, Ore., Jan. 8 U.PJ A sturdy 6-year-old boy, Donald Anderson of Prineville, Ore., soon will be Jn New York City to svmbolize all children who have suffered from Infantile par alysis and through public sup port, have been able to make recoveries. Little Donald Is undergoing checkups in Portland before flying east with his mother, Mrs. Edward S. Anderson, at the re quest of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. Hii picture is on two posters of the 1948 March of Dimes cam paign, one taken two years ago when he was unable to walk and another taken as he appears to day. The lad Is quite oblivious to the fuss being made over him or of the prominent part he is play ing in the 1046 campaign. He will make several public ap pearances between next Mon day and Jan. 31. Donald was stricken with the disease In September, 1943, and recovered after treatment at Doernbecher hospital and Shrin ers hospital In Portland. Funds for treatment were provided by Crook county chapter of the March of Dimes. Medford Brothers Marry Overseas; Wives To Follow When Permissible Both sons of Mr. and Mrs. L. I. Herrln, "509 Hamilton street, have returned home from war service with brides from over seas to follow them soon. Al though not yet in the States, the brides of Kenneth Herrin, for mer sergeant with the medical corps, and Fred Herrln, former ly a corporal with the 5th air force, will soon be on their way to homes in America. Kenneth Herrin returned home Jan. 1 following an honor able discharge from the army at Ft. Lewis, Wash., and is at the family home awaiting the ar rival of his wife, the former Gladys Abram of Fleetwood, Lancashire, England. Herrin met the English girl while with the 11th evacuation hospital over seas and the two were married June 20, 194S. The wife of Tred Herrin Is awaiting transportation to the States from Australia, where the two met while he was there as a member of the 35th fighter pa trol. They were married in June of 1944. The former airman, whose home Is now in Los Angeles, re ceived an honorable discharee from the air force last fall after 34 months overseas service In the Pacific theater. Phoenix Sophs To Play Host Friday At Costume Party Phoenix, Jan. 8 High school sophomores here will play host to the student body at a costume party in the gymnasium, Friday evening. Awarding of prizes for the best costumes and playing of in door games will feature the eve ning and refreshments will be served. Byrnes 'Appoints Committee of Five On Atom Control Washington, Jan. 8 (U.R) Secretary of State James F. Byrnes today created five man committee to study safe guards and controls of atomic energy and advise this country's delegates to the United Nations organization on the subject. The announcement came after some members of the U. S. del egation to UNO in London, indi cated dissatisfaction with the atomic energy resolution drafted by the recent Moscow foreign ministers meeting for submis sion to the UNO assembly this month. The state department said Sen. Arthur H. Vandenberg, R., Mich., was the principal objee. tor to the resolution.
