WILL SOMEONE GET Parents took their eight-year-old hoy to a physician for exam ination. The boy had what they thought was "pink eye" that is a com mon name for acute epidemic conjunctiv i t is (contagious in flamation of -tJ lining of "v-59 lids and i if fZi inE o l'H b?1,s); lining of eye- cover- e y e- The physician found the boy Dr. Brany had inflamma tion of the coloring around the black central pupil, the Iris the medical term for this Is iritis, and to the layman it sounds like eye-ritis. The physi cian explained that the cause of the iritis was infection brought to the irises through the blood stream. There, so far as the letter tells, the question was left suspended. However, the physician did go one-half step further before shoo ing' the patient and his parents away. He examined the boy's throat and then played it safely saying "Some one is going to get those tonsils one of these nays. Now the parents are coming to me, they tell me, for my well known etc. etc. No, no, we can't do that. Even if I examined the boy's throat and poked and probed into his tonsils with all the compunction . J . my opinion wduld still be luM a guess. You ask we whether the boy's tonsils should be removed now 011 after the eye trouble has cleared up, and if so, by which method. . I tell you I'm just guessing and I'd be just guessing about this if I had the boy under my professional care. As nearly as I can learn it is always just a guess whether (a) the septic "focus," as it is improperly call ed, from whence the infection (bacteria, germs) causing the Iritis or other trouble comes; and (b) whether the patient will be helped or harmed by the major operation (tonsillectomy) now; or whether the comparatively minor clipping (tonsillotomy) would be the preferable method; BUSINESS DIRECTORY Septic Tank Cleaning ' SEPTIC tank and cesspool pumping Also Oram "i anu acpuw wiim Instnllerl Phone 2824 Piano Tuning - fTANO TUNING and repairing i PurucKer Piano House, i 73S3 W P Brooks Roofing IftOOT contracting and roof repair! Whichever course should be followed, I cite the instance as a caution to parents to beware of physicians who mutter in their beards, and a hint to physicians to keep their traps closed when they have nothing to say.- QUESTIONS A ANSWERS Dog Trouble Two ions have athlete's foot and at the same time their feet smell to high heaven. (G. M. S. Answer Send stamped self ad dressed envelope and inclose a nego itable dime (that is, one not messed up with adhesives, textiles or hard ware, for booklet "Care of the Feet". The Old Humbug Propaganda Most of my cooking utensils are of cast aluminum, but I have Ben Told this is dangerous to use, as food absorbs enough aluminum to cause poisoning. (Mrs. W. W.) Answer Most of my food has been cooked in aluminum utensils for thirty years or so, and I'm still able to raise my head off my pillow and gasp "Baloney". Brown Spots Do brown spots on backs of hands indicate that you have liver trouhie? (Mrs. H. S.) Answer No. They are insignificant. Perhaps one of the remedies described in "Cosmetic Blemishes" will make them less conspicuous. Send ten cents and stamped self addressed envelope for the booklet. I presume you refer to the pamphlet "Preparing for Marriage", 25c. (Copyright 1946, John F. Dllle Co.) E TO Washington, Jan. 3 U.R) The office of price administra tion announced tonight plans to put the 1946 cotton crop under price control to avoid the need for raising prices on textiles and clothing. This will be the first time OPA has imposed price controls on a cotton crop. Price Chief Chester Bowles said he believed that "cotton prices will be steadied at a level which should permit textile ceilings to be held without change. Bowles commended the Com modity Credit Corp. for its re cent action to put more cotton on the market. Bowles termed the CCC plan as "a helpful measure in stabilizing textile and clothing prices." The department of agricul ture announced a week ago that about 650,000 bales of cot ton would be sold immediately on a bid basis by CCC and that an additional 850,000 bales would be sold within the next 90 days. The department said then that the additional cotton would provide ample stocks for cotton mill operations and promote orderly marketing of raw cotton and cotton products aV stable prices. NO ClSlf Hollywood, Jan. 5 (U.R1 Po lice learned today who ran the gambling den which was held up and robbed of $45,000 while movie stars looked on New Year's eve, but they were no closer to learning who robbed it. Jack Waer told police today he had opened the gambling den for one night, and that he and three of his employes ran out the back door when they learned a robbery was in pro gress in front. Waer was taken into police court shortly after and was giv en a 30-day jail sentence on his plea of guilty to a charge of running a gaming establish ment. CALL OFF STRIKE ON FRISCO LI Springfield.
