Good catches were reported from the Illinois the past week with an Ashland and Medford angler teaming up to bring home a dandy catch. Roads into tlie Illinois are reported ex ceptionally muddy but passable to all cars. Steelhead fishing In Rogue river has been good the past few weeks with results spotty from Gold Ray down to Gold Hill. Downstream from Grants Pass fishing is excellent and many limit catches have been reported. Three Medford fish ermen, using a boat, reported to friends that they caught 18 steelheads while another angler with a boat said he caught nine. Commenting on boat fishing in the rogue, Piche said "some funny laws we have which prove favorable with our local Sports man's Club. Just 32 down the Rogue from Medford fishermen are permitted to use boats the year around while in the upper part of the same river anglers cannot fish from boats after June 30." Sounds as if maybe Piche has a justifiable gripe there. At Gold Ray last Sunday Bill Fraad hooked six silver sides, losing one at gaff while four others broke tackle and escaped. The lone fish landed weighed 18 pounds. A teles cops rod and size three tan dem spinners in nickle were the successful combination.
