DAWSON ELECTRIC 129 No. Riverside Phone 3463 RELIEF CLOTHING E E A relief clothing drive upon sored by the Mcdford Minister ial Association is set for January 7-11, according to Stanley G. Keller, pastor of the Church of the Bretheren, and chairman of the drive. The Rev. Keller stated that the association believes citizens of Medford will respond to the drive because of the great physical need of millions of people in Europe and Asia who have been left destitute in the wake of war. Even though there have been two previous drives, there is still clothing that is not being used which can be given to this worthy cause, he said. The committee In charge of arrangements includes Stanley G. Keller. G. O. Baker, Assem bly of God, and Charles Rosnick, Salvation Army. It is planned that each co operating church will serve as a collection center and clothing will be collected Jan. 7, 8, and 9. On Jan. 10 and 11 it will be boxed and shipped by working groups organized by each church. A careful Investigation of re liable outlet channel's to foreign countries has been made by the committee to avoid any possible waste or misuse of the goods. Each church group may choose Its own depot through which to send goods in its care and the following depots has been rec ommended by the committee: National Association of Evan gelicals, New York; Friends Service Center, Seattle; and the United Church Relief Center, Modesto, Calif. More details will be announced soon, the Rev. Keller said. What's Doing at U. S. O. A New Year's formal dance will be held from 9 to 12 p. m. Dec. 31 at the Riverside USO. Young ladies of Medford and vicinity are invited to attend and are asked to register with the USO staff prior to 8 p. m. on the night of the dance. A local dance band will fur nish the music. VOLATIZING PLANT WOULD FILM DEGAULLE Hollywood. Dec. 27 (U.R) Two independent motion pic ture producers were angling to day to get French Gen. Charles De Gaulle to play himself in a film about wartime France: They said they would seek state de partment permission to make the general the offer. NEAR GOLD HILL Gold Hill, Dec. 27 A vola tlzing plant, which separates minerals from ores and concen trates by a heating and vaporiz ing process, is being assembled near the mouth of Sardine creek north of here by Charles L. Lull. Lull, who had an assaying of fice in Grants Fass for 25 years, will maintain a similar office along with the plant. Bad weather is holding up assembly work and operation of. the plant may not begin for a month or two, Lull says. Three buildings have been constructed for the project. One unit houses the machinery and another the assaying office. The third struc ture is a residence. Lull, who declares that the volatizing process is less waste ful than ordinary smcltcring. plans to stress the separation of the n.ore precious minerals such as gold, platinum and paladium. He will depend upon miners of the valley for much of his busi ness. Mining prospects in this area are veiy good and room exists for more exploitation than now exists, Lull believes. The New Almaden quicksil ver mines, worked for 150 years, contain the world's sec ond largest deposit of mercury. GOLD SWALLOWED Colombo, Ceylon, Dec. 27 (U.R) K.
