SIX MEDFOHD MAIL TRIBUNE Thursday, Dee. 20, 1945 JUNIORS DEFEAT Medford Junior high basket ball crew annexed their second rtralght conference win of the season yesterday when they downed Ashland Junlon 30 to 15 In a game played here. The first half wan fairly even but the Worthley gang pulled ahead early In the third period and were never headed. Reich col lected 14 points for Medford with Brewer second with six. Carl son paced Ashland with four. The Medford eighth graders eked out 20-18 win over the Ashland eighth grade in two overtime periods. Score was knotted 18-18 at end of the reg ular playing time. Morris swished in the winning basket after one minute of the second overtime period. Wendt was high scorer for Medford with six and Langer led Ashland with eight. The nominations list included 30 1945 stake winners from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Ireland and Chile. Elizabeth Arden's Maine Chance farm subscribed 11 nom inees, L. B. E RAMBLERS SCORE CAGE WIN 38-20 Medford High school Rambl ers, an independent team made up of high school students, pull ed a surprise 38 to 20 basket ball victory over Medford Hotel on the high school floor last night. Dick Fawcett led the winners with 14 points while Carson was high for the hotel men with seven. It was the high school all the way as they led 22 to 8 at halftimc. The Cubs, turning in only 121 errors In 155 games, compiled a team fielding mark of .980, three points better than the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cincin nati Reds were third with .976 followed by New York with .973. Pittsburgh with .971, Bos-1 ton with .969, and Brooklyn and Philadelphia tied at .962. Stan Hack Honored Despite their team title, how ever, the Cubs won only two in dividual fielding titles, Stan Hack topping the third basemen with an average of .975 and Andy Pafko turned in the best outfield mark, .995. Other individual titles went to: First baseman, Babe Dahlgren, Pittsburgh, .996. Second baseman, Emil Ver ban, St. Louis. .9781 against .9778 for Pete Coscarart of Pitts burgh. Pitchers Flawless Thirty-two pitchers fielded flawlessly during the season but Claude Passeau of the Cubs was put on top because he handled the most chances, 69, without making an error. The all-star fielding team would be completed with Vince DiMaggio of Philadelphia and Goody Rosen of Brooklyn in the outfield. Among the regular flychasers they finished next to Pafko DiMaggio with a mark of .994 and Rosen with a .993 average. For the first time In the his tory of the National league, no catcher appeared In as many as iuu games. O Dca and Al Lopez of Pittsburgh came closest to the mark, appearing in 91 con tests each. Medford's football team will leave here Dec. 31, at 5 a. m. aboard a chartered bus which will take them to San Francis co.
