TO Central Point, Dec. 10 Near ly rebuilt following its destruc tion by fire August 14, the Che ney Oregon Lumber company stud mill at Central Point will resume operation in about three weeks according to Francis I. Cheney, secretary-treasurer of the firm. The mill will start cutting an soon as the newly installed ma chinery is in order. Eight men will be employed. Although some of the studding will bo sold locally, chief mar ket will be in California and the east. Mr. Cheney considers the mill a venture in conservation as well as business. The studs are saw ed from side-cuttings left over In the manufacture of ties. And. because of the demand for edg ings or slabs and for sawdust, the whole log is rendered mar ketable, Mr. Cheney points out. Side-cuttings, formerly looked upon as waste, were burned by tie mills. The Cheney concern purchases slie-cuttings from 15 small mills in thin region and markets their tics as well, Pioneers in this sort of opera tion, the Cheney company has stud mills In Tacoma and Ray mond, Wash., and in Greenville, Calif.
