ALL GOD'S CHILLUN HAVE A series of X-ray treatments will bring about shrinkage of adenoids in many instances where the child's hear ing is eviden tly impaired by obstruction of the mouths or open ings of the Eustachi an tubes. The E u s t a chian tubes connect V 4 ji J&fim the nose-throat Blfif cavity with ErA-Viii.-'r' . tud. the middle ear Dr. Brady cavities where those three famous little bones hammer, anvil and stirrup are housed. At least X-ray treatment is worthy of a fair trial before submitting thejehild to operation for removal of adenoids. Some physicians have 'em ployed X-ray treatments suc cessfully for enlarged tonsils, whether with or without ade noid enlargement. There is just one way a physician can determine posi tively whether a patient has adenoids by feeling them with a finger introduced behind the soft palate into the vault or up per space of the pharynx or throat, the nose-throat cavity; or by seeing an image of the adenoid mass in a throat mir ror by means of head lamp. If the physician does not use one or the other method to examine the patient his diagnosis of "adenoids' 'is only a guess and may be wrong. Far too many children have been subjected to crude and un necessary surgery for "ade noids" they didn't have. The scandalous racket in wholesale tonsil and adenoid operations which flourished in the years that are gone left one wrong impression on the popu lar mind and another on the medical mind. The impression left In the mind of the layman is that the presence of tonsils and adenoids is abnormal in itself. The truth is, of course, that all healthy children have tonsils and ade noids, which serve two useful purposes first, they manufac ture blood corpuscles, and sec ond, they protect the body against bacterial invasion. The wrong impression still harbored by too many physi cians and specialists is that the lymphoid tissue of the tonsils and adenoids body is in itself harmful and must be completely eradicated to insure success from the operation. This no tion is so absurd and amateur ish that I am sure no reputable physician, surgeon or specialist will even attempt to defend it today. Nevertheless it is the sorry ground on which a good many quacks in ethical clothing contrive to damn the work of Newi. BN 10:00 p m. News Flnihes. If you ask me, folks, or -even if you don't, I'll say that in my opinion even now far too many children are subjected to this American atrocity because the physicians and specialists who commit the atrocity have no clear conception of the pathol ogy the nature of the condition they are treating. They just advise and do the operation be cause it is conventional and they know nothing else to do. QUESTIONS A ANSWERS Father and Son Tired Husband and 17-year-old son both seem so tired all the time. Doctors find nothing wrong . . . we live in the country and have plenty of vege tables, meat, milk, and cars. Mrs. E. S Answer I notice you live in the pnitre belt, the Great Iakes basin, where there is a deficiency of iodine in soil, drinking water and animal and vegetable food grown on the soil. It would do your husband and son and you no harm to take a suit able daily ration of Iodine. Send a stamped envelope bearing your address for pamphlet "The Iodin Ration".
