Army over Navy Navy has a
great ball club, with great ends,
tackles, guards, center, quarter
back, halfbacks and fullback.
It's only 11 men against 11 men.
The Middies will be .shooting
with everything they've got
but it ain't enough. Army will
be lucky to escape a homicide

f Twelve flying Tigers India-China "hump" pilots and
A.V.G. ground crew men came home from the war with an
idea. After what they'd learned in China, they thought they
could carve out a place for themselves in the air freight
business-not as a regularly scheduled line but as contract
haulers.
2 They knew they'd need a lot more topSM, But that
didn't discourage them. They pooled the savings they had,
drew up their plans and started beating the bush for
backers. Eventually they lined up several Los Angeles
businessmen to furnish the additional capital on a 50-50
' ''-the veterans to operate the company.
3 With this (spits! they bought S new, twin-engine
Navy -designed "Conestoga" cargo planes from the Surplus
Property Board. Then they set up offices at the Long
Beach (Cal. Municipal Airport, named their company
National Skyway Freight Corp, and started business
August!, 1&15
4 Today the "Flying Tiger Line" employs 40 men, 38
of them veterans. Its planes, each with a cargo capacity
of lO.CWO pounds, haul anything, from strawberries to
penicillin, on a contract basis. Furthermore, they'll pick up
freight any time, anywhere in the U. S. and deliver it any
where in the world.
5e The company use Union Oil Aviation Products.
But that doesn't seem nearly as important to us as the
fact that the boys were able to do what they did. It could
hardly have happened under anything but the American
"system."
6 Without th prof if Incentive the businessmen would
not have pat up the capital Without the tope of gaining
financial independence, the boys certainly wouldn't have
sweated out the endless problems of starting a new busi
ness. Altogether, we think it's one of the greatest things
that's happened since the war.
