Cecil Isbell, Purdue Coach, Named
As Greatest Grid Passer Of All Time
Chicago, Nov. 6 (U.R) Coach
Xarl (Curly) Lambeau of the
Green Bay Packers added new
iuel to one of football's old argu
ments today when he named
Cecil Isbell. Purdue head coach
as the game'i greatest all-time
passer.
"Isbell was a master at any
range, short, medium or long
ones." Lambeau said. "He could
. throw soft passes, bullet ones or
feathery lobs.
"He's the best with Sid Luck-
man of the Bears a close second
and Sammy Baugh a long third.
Luckman Is Just about a
good, Lambeau said, but not
quite as versatile while Baugh
doesn't toss the long ones to
comDare with Isbell.
Isbell quit professional foot
ball and the Packers three years
ago in the prime of his career
to become backfield coach at
Purdue, where he first rose to
stardom. He took over as head
coach two years ago.
Lambeau also said the Detroit
Lions had the best chance to win
the western division champion
ship of the National Football
league with the Cleveland Rams
second choice and his Packers
third. In the eastern division, he
picked Washington and Phlla
delphla as the two top teams.
