i j V LOCAL and PERSONAL In Portland Mayor C. A. Meeker left Medford Friday eve ning for Portland where he is attending a meeting of the League of Oregon Cities. Mayor Meeker, who is a member of the board of directors, plans to re turn Monday. . Receives Award Award of the silver star medal to First Lt. William E. Fiegenbaum, station ed for some time with the 96th division at Camp White, was learned this week by friends here from the. officer's wife, who re sides In Salem. Lt. Fiegenbaum has been stationed on Okinawa and is expected to arrive in the United States soon, according to a letter from Mrs. Fiegenbaum. Bradford Home Mr. and Mrs. Ira T. Bradford, 19 Lincoln street, returned Monday after a short visit in McMinnville, Ore., and Grants Pass. Bradford re ceived an honorable discharge Oct. 25 at Ft. Lewis, Wash., after serving 19 months in the army, one year of which was with the first division of the first army in the European theater. Brad ford received the purple heart, combat infantryman's badge, good conduct medal and three bronze battle stars. The Brad fords have three children. Dr. 0. S. Carte, 17, route 4, box 863C, has enlisted in the army air corps, according to information receiv ed from the army service forces, Portland. He is the son of Doyle Carte of the Medford address. Bicycle Theft Theft of a black and blue World bicycle be longing to Norman French, route 2, was reported to local police Friday. Officers were told the bike was taken from French's home sometime Thursday night. Speaks In A s h 1 a n d Mrs. Clarence Meeker, 724 East Jackson street, will speak today at the church service of the First Methodist church in Ash land. Mrs. Meeker will speak on mission work around the world in conjunction with the annual thank offering of the church. Captain Here Captain. L. 3. Conroy of the army medical ad ministration corps, is visiting his wife and daughters, Nancy and Mary Kay, at their home on West Ninth street, after spend ing the past year overseas with the 30th general hospital. Capt. Conroy will report to Letterman General hospital, San Francisco, Nov. 30. Awarded Medal Mr. and Mrs. Fred Reich, Stewart avenue, re ceived a distinguished flying cross medal recently from their son, 1st Lt. Cecil F. Reich, which he recently was awarded for, mis sions flown over "the hump" in the Himalaya mountains with the American air force in India. Lt. Reich has been overseas for the past 10 months. Girl Injured Janet Walton, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Walton, 25 Cottage street, was treated by a local physician Friday after being shot in the head with an air rifle, city police were told. The girl reportedly was riding her bicycle with a friend on Crown street at the time of the accident. The bullet was removed shortly afterward, according to the police report. Owner of the gun who fired the shot was not reported. Struck By Auto Alice Colley, seven, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Colley, 226 North Front street, was slightly injured Fri day afternoon when struck by an auto operated by Virgil P. Ken ney, P.O. box No. 1333, accord ing to an accident report filed with city police. The report stated that the child walked out from in front of a parked bus into Kenney's car. Mr. Cherry is a radioman third class in the navy and is stationed at Treasure Island. Mrs. Aman da Cherry, 312 South Ivy street, Mr. Cherry's mother, has return ed to Medford after visiting the couple. On Okinawa Wallace John son, EM3c, stationed on a repair ship, recently wrote home to say that his shin hari hen fhmiioh the storms centered around Okin awa. He stated that the ship put to sea and rode out the last storm for three and one-half days and that the ship also had experi enced the earlier severe typhoon. Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl H. Johnson, 1416 West Tenth street, has been in the navy 30 months. Veterans Foreign Wars Meet Tuesday Veterans of Foreign Wars, Crater Lake post No. 1833, and auxiliary, will hold the regular business meeting Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 8 p. m. at the armory. Dis trict Commander Francis Walker will pay his official visit to the post, a class of recruits will be initiated and a drill will be put on by the degree team. In ad dition plans for the Armistice day program will be completed and the president of district eleven of the auxiliary will be present. OBITUARY EUGENE NOWLIN Funeral services for Eugene Nowlin who passed away at his residence on Spring street Wed nesday, will be. held in the Conger-Morris chapel at 1:30 p. m. Tuesday, with the Rev. P. A. Bell of New Castle, N. J., an old friend of the family, officiating. Rev. Bell will be assisted at the grave in Siskiyou Memorial park by the Roxy Ann Grange of which deceased was a member.
