Odd Gifts Coming From Soldiers In Japan Occupation Yokohama, Nov. 2 (U.R) American Christmas trees may be decorated with a lot of odd gifts this year, including Jap anese rifles, swords, bugles and fragile dolls. A former Mitsubishi company warehouse on the Yokohama waterfront Is stacked high with long and weird-looking parcels awaiting loading onto ships. The boss of the warehouse is an American army officer, Maj. Robert L. Gower of Atlanta, Ga., commander of the seventh base postoffice now operating out of Yokohama. This postoffice handles all in coming and outgoing mail for 27 APO's in northern Honshu and Hokkaido. It now is handling about 8,000 sacks fo parcel post a week. Letters, mostly air mail, average about 3,000 pounds a day. "We're trying to get all the packages back to the states with in a month from the mid-October mailing deadline," Gower said. "That will give plenty of time for distribution by Christmas." If you are looking for a "Blue Chip" investment. Victory Loan Bonds yield 2.9 percent. Beverly Hills. Calli. PHYSICAL Playing baseball is fine for any one. Flaying football is all right for grown men (university I men), not so good for youths of col lege age, bad for boys in high school this is just my opinion. If any parent asks for my advice about a school boy "training" for the foot ball team I sav Dr. Brady "Unless this schoolboy is really a full grown man who is mentally retarded and hence still in hiehschool such training and such endur ance effort as football demands will endanger his future well being, in my opinion." I hope no lamebrain "coach" or other "sports" leader will try to infer from this that I favor namby-pamby pastimes for boys and young men. On the contrary I believe the American public school system fails dismally in the education of our youth. The administrators of public educa tion have never yet given physi cal education serious considera tionthe policy of American ed ucators, or at least educators who have influence or authority, Is to ignore or at most just toler ate the silly pretenses of physical education, and so it is all right with them if outsiders step in to run the football racket and dis tract the attention of parents and taxpayers in general from the neglect of physical education in the school. If I had my way a reasonable standard of physical fitness would be requested in every instance and exposed when the case seemed flagant. Whatever may be the reasoning by which parents justify this be trayal of the well being of their own children, the doctor who lends his professional standing to the fraud deserves the censure of decent people. Not every schoolboy can be a star on the baseball diamond or the running track or the gymna sium floor, but short of complete paralysis every boy can and should have more or less apti tude and cultlmate skill for something or other, and that, I think, should become the theme, the special goal or direction for his physical training. Aside from the actual harm done the growing boy by the strenuous endurance effort of football, high-school football has the effect of restricting physical training to candidates for the football team and withholding it from the majority of boys who do not try to make the team. For many years I have been warning parents against the dan gers of highschool football, and getting a good deal of harsh crit icism for my pains criticism from people who have a stake In the racket. Occasionally some parent of a boy who has suf fered grave injury in his school football tells me I am right but that is too late. Whatever you may think about my atti tude, please bear in mind that I say nothing about the moral side of the question and the views I express are only my own honest opinion. Lied about my age to teachers who think pupils should not begin when they are over Id. Many say I am too old and wilt suffer harm physically from the strenuous practicing and stretching. (Miss N. T.) Answer I can assure you that the stretching and practicing will do no harm, but I do not know whether it is late to start lessons It would be wise to be honest with your teacher about your age, for your own best interest. Goldfish Your statement that goldfish do not eat mosquito larvae I have used goldfish for years to keep my pools free from mosquitoes, and since I stocked the pools with goldfish we have no more mosquitoes, whereas before we were constantly annoyed. (Miss R. D. E ) Answer Thank you, Ma'am. Min nows are usually the best destroyers of mosquito larvae, perhaps because they are hot supplied with so much food. Goldfish may keep a pool free from the larvae if they are not too well ted. (Copyright 19(5, John T. DUle Co.) MacFadden's Ideas On Crack Pot Side Is Divorce Finding Miami, Fla., Nov. 2 (U.P.) A divorce for physical culturist Bernarr MacFadden was recom mended today in the findings of special master John C. Gram ling, who described some of Mac Fadden's ideas as "crackpot." Gramling said it might be crackpot for MacFadden to ex pose his children to wintry weather when they were Im properly clothed; stand on his head or sleep on the ground. But Gramling readily admitted that "with the use of these 'crackpot' ideas, (he) amassed a great fortune." The divorce suit, filed by Mac Fadden in 1943, was contested by Mrs. MacFadden. They were married in 1913 because he thought her the "ideal physical culture woman." Cloalng time tor Classified Ads 8:30 a. m. Too Late to Classify 13:15 p. m Please rememDer L. C.
