Mobile Unit Scheduled Here This Month; Exact Dates To Be Announced Soon. 4A The mobile X-ray Unit will come to Jackson county this month. That's the news released this week to the Jackson County Public Health association as sci entists and health workers throughout the nation join in the steps for cllebration of "X-ray Week'", honoring the discoverer, Rontgen. Mrs. Dwight Findley, chair man of the Jackson county cam paign to obtain a chest X-ray for every individual, stated that Mrs. Saidie Orr Dunbar, execu tive secretary of the Oregon Tu berculosis association will be in Medford November 7 to make preliminary plans. A dinner meeting for this purpose has been arranged by Mrs. Elwood Hedberg, Public Health associa tion president, at the Hotel Med ford. Dates Later Exact dates upon which X rays will be offered all Jackson county people will be announced in the very near future. The coming of the mobile unit has been eagerly awaited by the Public Health association for many months, while it was being operated in other sections of the state. These operations revealed the outstanding benefits of the campaign by bringing to light hundreds of previously un dreamed of as well as untreated cases of tuberculosis. Mrs. Findley expressed the hopes of the association in stat ing that it is believed all classes of people in this community will avail themselves of the oppor tunity to obtain a free chest X ray. Jackson county, she point ed out, has been known for many years as one of Oregon's most "public health minded" counties. Therefore little insist ence should be needed to get the people to be X-rayed. T have had a chest X-ray" will be the December slogan in this county, it is hoped. For when November ends every person should be in a position to make that boast. The X-ray service will not be limited to persons who have had indications or fears of tuberculosis. It will be offered to everyone. All find ings will be reported to the in dividual only. Where any trou ble is indicated a more thorough examination will be recommend ed. Need Is Seen Such X-ray pictures are being taken in many parts of the na tion today and have been since the war brought to light the urg ent need for a more sure method of finding the hidden cases of tuberculosis. The mobile X-ray unitj which carries this program to all sec tions is viewed by Public Health workers as the "most forward step in the history of the eradica tion of tuberculosis." iCT TO SAVE FISHING Salem, Ore., Nov. 1 U.R) National or international com pacts to settle offshore fishing rights along the Pacific coast are needed to save depletion of the industry, an Oregon legislative committee proposed today. State Senator Walter Pearson, of Portland, chairman of the Interstate Cooperation com mittee's sub-group on fishing, said efforts would be made first to reach an agreement with California, Oregon and Washington. Arne S o u m e 1 a, state fish commissioner, said he will call a meeting, probably in Salem late in November, to con fer with the other two states on SUAVE!
