Stocks rallied near closing time
today and finished irregular aft
er an early decline had lopped
fractions to 'more than a point
from a majority of Issues.
The early selloff reflected cau
tion on the part of long traders
who lightened lines in advance
of tonight's Truman speech on
wages and prices. The late re
covery was attributed to short
covering and to some speculative
buying on anticipation of a
wage-price policy loaded with
inflationary ammunition.
Aside from the forthcoming
Truman speech the market had
little of special interest on which
traders could base commitments.

Love For. Dresses
Concerns Parents
New Albany, Ind. (U.R) Her
love of pretty new dresses gave
seven - year - old Ruth Angel's
parents plenty of worry for two
days.
A frantic search after the little
girl failed to come home from a
movie ended 48 hours later in
her discovery with a 13-year-old
girl. The older girl said she
lured Ruth to her home by
promising her dresses.
The girl told Juvenile authori
ties that her brothers and sisters
were all older than she and that
she wanted someone to play
with.
