LIPSCOMB LOSES L E E, 0L0 TIMER SAYS St. Paul, Minn., Oct. 26 (U.R) A Negro ball player who turn ed down a major league contract in 1903 because his parents fear ed racial prejudice looked today to Jackie Robinson to make good with the Montreal Royals. Billy Williams, first Negro player ever offered a major league contract, was obviously pleased with the Brooklyn Dod gers' acquisition of Robinson, 26-year-old colored shortstop from Pasadena, Calif. "Robinson's a fine player. He'll make good If given an even chance. But colored players ought to have the same opportun ity at minor league training and come up the ranks like white players," Williams said. The husky Williams, now 67, sate in the ornate reception room at the Minnesota state capitol where he is executive aide to Gov. Edward J. Thye and said he never regretted turning his back on organized baseball. The Gray Mask won the de ciding fall over Champion Jack Lipscomb via the foul route in the top main event of the Med- ford armory wrestling program last night. The Mask took the first spill when he began head butting tactics even before the muscle manglers had their robes removed. Lipscomb didn't have a chance as the Hood grabbed the initial tumble. The Hoosier Hot Shot evened the score in the second round and was well on his way to the final fall in the third canto. He had the mystery man outside the ring and wasn't letting him get back in when Referee Wally Moss interfered. Lipscomb pick ed Moss up and tossed him out among the spectators but the ar biter awarded the Mask the match on a foul. "You can't man handle the referee and get away with it," Moss said. Angelo Martinelli tossed a son nenburg at a ring post instead of at Rufus Jones and was not able to come back for the third fall. Tumbles stood at one each after the Buckeye master missed. Herb Parks and Joe Lynam each took a fall for a draw in the opener, before near sell out crowd. Chicago, Oct. 26 (U.R) Dr. A. B. Martin, president of the Ne gro-American Baseball league, said today that he may confer with President Ford Frick of the National league next week about "problems" arising from the signing of Negro Jackie Robinson to a contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers' Montreal farm club. "Several have come up which should be discussed," Martin said. "I admire Branch Rickey (president of the Dodgers) for his courage, but the method of signing Robinson raises some problems." . , ESI SU.-. , -.:--i.-rJXZ irt::3 MEN'S KARAKUL WOOL COATS and MACKINAWS on sale in Banquet Room Holland Hotel.
