Oct. 17, 1943 Captain Darrell Riggs Probably Out Of Tornado Lineup Against Pelicans The Medford-KIamath Falls a total of 198 points to their op- football gam, to be played In Klamath Falls Friday night, will be broadcait oyer radio station XMED, beginning at 8 o'clock, it was announced today. Captain Darrell Riggs, who Is ona of the outstanding linemen In Oregon high school grid cir cles, will probably ba out of the crucial game with Klamath Falls Friday night. Coach Al Simpson said today. Riggs, 185-pound left end, suffered a broken nose In the Eureka game here last week nd, although he has returned to school Monday after a week end in the hospital, he has not reported for practice. Use of medicines to relieve the pain have left the lanky flankman "woozy" and It is un likely he will be in physical con dition to play, even with a nose guard, Simpson said. Lynn Bessonotte and Howard Whillock, starting tackles, have been battling with a touch of flu for the past few days but will probably be ready to go for at least part of the game, the mentor declared. Remainder of the team was in good shape this morning, after a couple of days of heavy workouts for the battle at Klamath Falls. Klamath Falls is sparked by a pair of backs by the names of Edwards and Redkcy who are good men in any league and are not to be sold short against tnc Tornado. Both are much faster than the average high school backfleld man and will be away for a touchdown whenever they can break into the clear. The Pelicans have played four games, breaking even with two wins and two losses. Last time out they dropped a 13-12 decis ion to Grants Pass in a Southern Oregon league clash. Talent won Its 20th consecutive game last Friday when they beat Gold Hill 49-14 while the Pointers have lost one this season. The Talent high school band and drill team will entertain at the game, Coach Roy Parr said. A formidable quintet, Mrs. A. L. Price's Slrde, W-L Ranch's Paperboy, Miss C. Jclm's Bull Reigh, Mrs. Howard Hawk's War Valor, and T. W. Ranch's Man O' Glory, Jumped into the breach left by Busher, whose ankle swelled yesterday after a work out. ' These five thoroughbreds are likely to share equal support from the anticipated throng of 50,000 fans. The sudden turn of events may also lure as many as 20 starters for the mile and one-quarter classic. Before Busher was count ed out, the list of candidates was expected to boil down to approx imately 15. Oct. 17 (U.R) An inquest was scheduled today in me death of Mexican National Alberto Silva, 18, after an Ocean Park arena boxing match. Attorney David Marcus, repre senting the Mexican consul, ask ed Coroner Ben H. Brown to In vestigate Silva's- death, charging that the youth was given a li cense to fight professionally without previous training. Silva suffered a brain toncus- sion in his bout Oct. 9 with Felix Miramonlez, former Golden Gloves tournament winner. Ref eree Jimmy Wallace, who stop ped the match after four rounds because Silva was taking too many head blows, awarded Mlra- mnntrz a technical knockout. Marcus said Silva, brought here from Mexico a month ago as an agricultural worker, was granted a boxing permit on the strength of statements by his manager, Eddie Stanley, that he waj ready for the fight and his own avowal that he had previous professional experience.
