Offord Home Bill Offord, RT 1c in the navy, has arrived in Medford after 21 months spent in the Southwest Pacific war theater. Offord, accompa nied by his wife, will spend 30 days here, after which he will report back to Oak Knoll hos pital in Oakland, Cal. The Of fords are visiting Mr. Offord's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray R. Offord, route 4. Pieper Here Pvt. Dean Pie- per is in Medford to visit Mrs. Pieper and their young son, Ter ry Dean, at the home of Mrs. Piener's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Fisk, route 1. Pvt. Pie per has been stationed at Camp MacArthur, Tex, and will re port later this month to Ft. Ord, Calif., for overseas assignment. Pvt. Pieper is a former Medford and Ashland resident and at one time was secretary of the Ash land Chamber of Commerce. Captain Returns Capt. O. A. Ewaldsen of the 650th Topogra phical engineers' unit returned to Medford yesterday morning after 19 months in the Pacific war theater. Capt. Ewaidsen, with his wife and small son, will reside at 45 Ross Court. The cap tain has been placed on the army inactive list until January. Capt. . Ewaldsen was stationed at Camp White for several months before leaving for overseas duty. His wife is the former Phoebe Swem. Officer Home John G. Craw ford, former captain with the 91st division, received an honor able discharge from the army last week following five years in the service. Crawford spent several days leave with his wife and two children at the family home at 909 East Jackson street prior to reporting to Ft. Lewis, Wash., for his discharge, and re turned to Medford Monday from the fort. Eighteen months of his army career were spent in Italy. DEMOOllON Wall Township, N. J., Oct. 11 OJ.R) Police awaited the re sults of an autopsy today to de termine how Mrs. Grace McMur ray, 32, rnet her death after beating her two small daughters to death with a plumber's ham mer. Mrs. McMurray's burned and blackened body was found in the living room of her white stucco bungalow yesterday after a neighbor told police that she had threatened suicide because she was sure her husband was "running around with another woman." McMurray Is in New Mexico on a business trip, police said. Police were unable to say whether Mrs. McMurray died of the burns she suffered in a bed room fire or whether she had attempted death in some other manner and after arranging for the house to catch fire through the use of a blow torch and a can of cleaning fluid. Leonard L. Lincoln of Pros pect has filed suit in circuit court against Norman L. Cooper, operator of a stage line between Prospect and Medford for the re covery of $429.50. The action filed yesterday alleges that Jack Baker, an agent and employe of the defendant, failed to make de livery of the sum in currency and checks to the United States National bank on Oct. 7. The complaint sets forth that an arrangement was made re cently between the plaintiff and defendant, whereby to carry and deliver deposits from time to time to the bank at the rate of $1 per deposit. It is further claimed that Lin coln was instructed by Cooper to deliver the sum to Jack Baker, an employe of the defendant. It is then alleged Baker failed to make the bank delivery nnd plaintiff alleges he has reason to believe "Baker absconded with the money." Neff and Frohnmayer aopear as counsel for the plaintiff. Transport Brings Seabees, Marines Port Hueneme, Cal., Oct. 11 (U.R) USS Dorothea Dix, first large transport to dock here, rode at anchor today after dis gorging 1372 seabee and marine veterans sent home for discharge. The navy transport, jammed with Pacific war returnees, was hailed yesterday by a large crowd at Port Hueneme naval base.
