Never before has there been a series that shattered as many marks as the 1945 "big show" which bowed out yesterday at Wrigley field after seven games. The records included: Largest crowds The 41,590 fans who attended yesterday's game established a new world series attendance mark, boosting the total turnstile registration for the seven-game 1945 series to 333,457. Yesterday's turnout al so was the largest crowd ever to attend the seventh game of a world series. Total , receipts Yesterday's turnout poured $204,177 into the coffers, hiking the total take for the 1945 series to $1,592,454, and cracking the former mark of $1,322,328.21 set in 1940. Strikeouts Hal Newhouser of Detroit in striking out 10 men to win yesterday's game, set a new modern series mark of 22 strike outs. He had fanned 12 men in his previous two series appearances. Pinch hitters The Cubs, in using their 14th pinch hitter in yesterday s game, set a new rec ord for National league "late en tries". Longest game The sixth game, a 12-inning battle on Mon day lasted three hours and 28 minutes, breaking by 34 minutes the former high of 2:54 set by the Yankees and Dodgers in 1941. Oct. 11 U.R Those roaring Tigers roared into De troit today with their first world's baseball title in 10 years and fresh money jingling in their pockets. Giving a rousing welcome at the Union station last night, the Tigers tonight will officially re ceive the thanks of the city for winning the World Series when they attend a lavish dinner pre sented by the chamber of com merce. Each of the 31 Tiger players, who were voted a full World Series share, will receive about $6,445. The Tiger team, in all. received $199,799.88 from the players' pool or 60 per cent, the winner's share. Meanwhile, in Chicago. 33V4 shares were dolled out to the Cubs. Each share was worth about $4,277. SEALS TAKE 6-1 San Francisco, Oct. 11 (U.R) The San Francisco Seals and the Seattle Rainiers today were tied at two games apiece in the $10,000 Pacific Coast league Governor's Cup playoffs. The Seals, who took the fourth game in the scries last night by a decisive 6-1 score, planned to start Bob Joyce on the mound against the Suds Hal Turpin when the clubs clash again tonight. The Seals won their second game by breaking a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning when they pounded across four runs. Ben Guintini doubled off the center field fence and went to third von Charley Petersen's single to left infield. Neil Sheridan doubled to score Guintini and came in with Petersen on another double by Willie Enos. Enos went to third on Perry's sacrifice and scored after the catch on Bones Sand er's long fly to centerfield. Frank Seward yielded six hits to the visitors. The Seals scored 12 hits, four of which were in the fifth inning. Ore., Oct. 11 (U.R) The Portland Beavers have acquired Billy Holm, Boston Red Sox catcher who handled 93 games for Los Angeles in 1943 without an error. General Manager William K.lepper wired from Chicago that hu tied bought Holm as a second man behind Eddie Adams, the regular Beaver backstop. Holm was shunted back and forth between Chica go and the Angels for several seasons, but the Cubs used him in only 50 games last year and he went to the Red Sox this spring. Mo., Oct. 11 ',U.R Gordon John Eichhorn, 20-year-old Marion, O., farmer, today held the title of star farmer of America. An announcement of Elch horn'r. selection and award of S00 from the weekly Kansas City Star, was made last night at the 18th annual convention of the future farmers of Amer ica. Eichhorn. who started his farming program in 1939 with a sow. two tcers nnd 26 sheep, now has 60 hogs, 90 sheep. 1,500 chickens, 52 acres of wheat, 67 pcres of corn, 18 acres of soy beans. 26 acres of oats, and six of Barley and 52 of alfalfa and corn. He owns farm machinery valued at $2 028. Eichhorn lived with his wife on a 10-acre tract of land. In ad dition, he manages a 56-acre farm for a friend in service and rents a 40-acre tract. Chester Ellis who has re turned from the army has moved his family into the place vacated by the Moorchouscs. Mrs. Guy Tedrich has returned home after spending a few days in a Medford hospital. Mrs. Elmer Wells who was burned so badly is said to be im proving slowly at the Sacred Heart hospital. Everybody around Butte Falls seems to be wearing a red hat, but we do not see many bucks coming in. Dallas Zimmerlee has been home on a 45-day furlough and has been with his wife at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Ed mondson. He will soon have to report at Camp Lewis for fur ther assignment. Loyld Tungate has returned home from the marines to stay. He is the youngest son of Jack Tungate. Ken B. Edmondson had as his dinner guests Sunday his wife's mother, father, and brother.
