Assembly of God To Hear Veteran Lester McNabb of Bakers- field, Calif., a discharged vet eran of World War II will speak at the Assembly of God Church, 1 1 Newtown street, Sunday night. Mr McNabb gained a wealth of material during his army service. Before entering the army he traveled extensively with a male quartet. During his time In the service he wrote articles for different publications with large circula tion. He has been in a number of the large Youth for Christ rallied and has a real message for old and young. The meetings will begin promptly at 7:45 p.m. Church of God To Hear Evangelist The Rev. H. B. BY RED GROSS UNIT Five hundred pounds of O.D. wool have arrived at the office of the Jackson county Red Cross office, to be made into 320 sleeveless sweater and 400 "walking cast" socks according to Mrs. A. Orin Schenck, pro duction chairman. Experimen tal knitters are urged to call at once at the office in the court house for the yarn and for direc tions, either from Mn. Schenck or Mrs. Nelle Winne, knitting supervisor. The "walking cast" socks are the first of the kind to be made by Jackson county knitters and are to be used for amputation cases in military hospitals, it is stated. Two hundred pounds of navy wool are expected soon. Mrs. Schenck states that the production unit faces an unusu ally heavy demand for workers this fall and winter and she urges all SO county units to re organize to meet this increased need. Eight cartons of finished articles were shipped from the production department last week, she reports. OFFER VETERANS Y Work on Layettes Wins Praise From Red Cross Leader A special letter of appreciation and praise for the work done on a number of Red Cross layettes has been received by Mrs. A. Orin Schenck, production chair man of the Jackson County Red Cross chapter, from Mrs. Robert Kirschner, assistant to the ad ministrator of volunteer special services at the area office, San Francisco. "I had an occasion to be at our warehouse to meet an emergency request and saw some layettes made by your chapter," Mrs. In order to facilitate sales of certain surplus vehicles to vet erans, representatives of the U.S. Department of Commerce, office of surplus properties, are at the army -ordnance command shop on the Sauth Pacific highway for the next several days, It was an nounced today. Available at present, to veterans only, are army type four-wheel drive half ton weapon carriers and one and one-half ton cargo carriers, it was stated. v R. W. Vaux, sales officer for the surplus properties division, states that veterans interested should call at the ordnance shop by Oct. 10, with veterans' iden tification papers, if they are in terested in purchasing the ve hicles. Jeeps and other types of vehicles will be placed on sale later, Vaux stated. Experiment flights prove that highly perishable commodities such as sea foods, fruits and veg etables may be flown by air ex press to active markets, thus supplying one-day-old foods to every section of the United States with a negligible percen tage of loss, according to the Railway Express Agency.
