Illness Often National figures reveal that illnesses may be found in one of 10 homes in normal times and one out of five during seasonal peaks of illness, the Red Cross hopes to train an additional 30, 000 housewives, college and high school students this fall and win ter. The course will also help women to provide the best pos sible home conditions for return ing veterans who may need spec ial care and comforts to build them up, and will teach them how to carry out the doctors' or ders when there is illness or need for special treatments." The new class will meet Mon days and Thursdays from 1 to 3 p. m. in the courthouse auditor ium with Mrs. Lelia Gilman as instructor. The course will con sist of 12 lessons and those plan ning to enroll should plan to attend the first meeting Oct. 11 at 1 p. m. Further information may be obtained by calling 4405. If sufficient number enroll, classes could be planned at hours convenient to those who cannot meet this class hour. Miss Bullis states. Boy Scout News Troop Two Troop Two will now have two senior patrol leaders, Life Scout Robert Pitts and Life Scout Ted Sidwell. Pitts was promoted from patrol leader in an election held by his fellow scouts at Lincoln gym Tuesday evening. Ernest Nelson, Star Scout, was promoted to patrol leader and will al-3 be troop quartermaster. Billy Dailey, Star Scout, has been made scribe. Dick Hake, junior assistant scoutmaster, reports that his staff j of leaders is now completed and has called for a green bar meet ing to be held every week. The troop is working towards another Court of Honor to be held soon and also plans for a hike. Mr. Drysdale, neighborhood commissioner, attended the meet ing and spoke. Also present were Ray Ahart, troop committeemen, and Bliss Heine, Instructor of the troop drum and bugle corps. Sixteen boys Were present. Y.. ac cused the men of killing Katsuzi Tanakj and his IB year-old son, Osamu Tanaka following a saki drinking party at the Tanaka home in Yokohama after they had gone AWOL from a nearby camp. Say "Fall Rassee' Instead of Bosc, Is Ad Bureau Plea At a recent meeting of the Oregon-Wasliington-Cal-ifornia Pear Bureau's ad vertising committee in Port land it was voted to change the name of the russet-skinned, long-necked often call ed "Bosc" to "Fall Russett" pears. "Fall Russet" was decid ed upon as superior, because it has proved to have more sales appeal to consumers and Is a more descriptive name than "Bnsc." Fur easier identification. In making the name change over, Pear Bureau litera ture and advertising will at first refer to 'Fall Russet Bosc" pears But eventu ally it is planned to drop the designation. "B o s c," altogether. Magician John Eads Entertains JayCees Magician John Eads, recently returned from the Pacific battle area, entertained members of the Medford Junior Chamber of Commerce at a social meeting at Holland Hotel Tuesday evening. Various items donated by Med ford merchants were sold by Auctioneer Carey Thomson. Plans for the Oregon JayCee directors meeting to be held in Medford Oct. 27 and 28 were dis cussed by Bill Meyst, general chairman, and Victor Milnes, state treasurer. Visitors were Mickey Bennell, Tony M a n n o and Bill Frey. Central Point Central Point, Oct. 4 Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Tetherow went to Gold Beach Saturday for a week's vacation. They plan to visit with Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Grimes, and to do some fishing. Overnight guests Wednesday at the Victor Bursell home were Mr. and Mrs. Dale Haley, and Mr. Haley's mother, Mrs. Dale Haley came to the United States recently from Australia. Miss Norrene B o h n e r t was married to SM 1c John Gray Thompson, Saturday at 8 p. m. at the First Christian church of Medford. Mr. and Mrs. Ike Orr arrived Wednesday for a visit with Mrs. Orr's mother, Nora Hansen. Vern Hansen fell last week and broke his arm. Mr. Waclty has taken over the Job of city water superintendent since the resignation of Mr. Jones. Mrs. Esther Sullivan is visiting friends in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Mueller and chil dren, Bob and Linda, have mov ed to Medford. Clifford and Lyn Cordy were ill a few days last week and had to miss school. First regular meeting of the Parent-Teacher Association will be October 5 in the high school auditorium at 3 o'clock. Kenneth Williams underwent an appendectomy last week. E. Gilbert Cays, minister of the Church of Christ, is conduct ing a series of meetings at the Sams Valley schoolhouse. Serv ices are held each Monday, Tues day, Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p. m., and Sunday-at 3 p. m. Marine Corps Cuts Discharge Points Washington, Oct. 4 U.R) The marine corps today reduced to 60 the point score required for discharge of men. The original marine discharge level was 85 points, set Aug. 15.
