YOU HAVEN'T ITCHED TILL YOU'VE HAD IVY POISONING Once I was severely censured by an editor for using the term pruritus In my copy Well I sup- tne etinors an. noyance was justified. Some of our medi cal terms are funny that way. However, the term pru ritus means simply Itching without a rash or other skin lesion to ac count for It, Dr. Brady Other than mention one or two simple remedies for the relief of such Itching I'm ifraid I can do noth lng for sufferers here, but I have a pamphlet about it that gives various remedies or suggests treatment, and any reader may have a cony on written request of he provides stamped self ad dressed envelope. Of all kinds of Itching I ever had-and I have had many kinds, including the seven (year, day, hour depending on treatment) Itch, the most maddening itch oh all hemlock. I wonder If that wasn't vhat put me off my nut In the first place? is Ivy poisoning. I contracted it in the summer, the first and only at tack ever had and the Itching persisted pretty constantly till the next spring. I still feel like kicking the furniture when I re call that the Ivy toxin treatment (dally Intramuscular Injections of homeopathic doses of Ivy ex tract) was not Introduced until after my bout or If It was In use I had not learned of It. I believe the best treatment for Ivy poisoning is a daily in tramuscular Injection of Ivy toxin, whether the trouble Is just beginning or the Itching lin gers on long after the skin in flammation has passed. In many cases a single "shot" seems to bring the attack to an end with in a few days. Local physician gives victims of ivy poisoning Rhus Tox pills (homeopathic) internally and the thouble clears up promptly iH. C. C.) Next time you have ivy pol toniiis (writes H. R. N.) put on the white of an egg in the morn ing s-id forget all about the de sire to scratch Spread a slice of well mois tened white bread with a thick layer of baking soda and apply it to the ivy poisoning. It gives Instant relief. (Mrs J. M. C.) I tried none of these remedies when 1 had ivy poisoning, the only relief I obtained from the itchirg was from sopping on the well known Calamine Lotion to each four ounces of which one ounce of 5 phenol (carbolic acid) solution Irr water was add ed. That makes a 1 carbolic lotion (Druiigists may sell 5 carbolic acid solution in water without prescription). Calnmine lotion itself is popular lotion for the relief of itching, irritation, mild sun burn. It is a mixture of about two tJaspoonfuls of calamine uowdpr, two teaspoonfuls of zinc oxide powder one-hall teaspoon ful of glycerin in enough lime water to fill a four-ounce vial Shake it up well and apply as often as desired by dabbing on with fingers Mure about Ivy poisoning to follow. tor QUESTIONS & ANSWERS I'oor Service The doctor you recommended Ambulant treatment of piles li miles away.
