You begin by enumerating unsportsman like Instances and conclude by call ing all sportsmen, especially Ttroud ones, sadistic morons. Where Is the connection? Con rult Webster for the meaning of the word sadistic I don't be lieve It Is the word you want . . . I would love to see you catch trout on a fly with what you call an automatic weapon or tie a fly that will lure a wily trout and then repeat "never by his own kiH". I do believe you are erne of those unskilful sportsmen who develop a sour grapes attitude because of their own Incapabil ity. . Try duck hunting. What wicked gremlin got Into my typewriter and made me use the word myself? For that matter, my use of the term moron was only a little less censurable. Certainly all huntors and fishermen are not morons as C E ' gentle (in the circumstances) rebuke so clearly Indicates. But In extenu ation I hopo discerning renders will note that I so characterized only the exhibitionists, not all hunters and fishermen. Bartholomew United Press Staff Correspondent Okinawa, Sept. 26 (Delayed) U.B Okfhawa, scene of the war's last great battles, offers an interesting preview of Ja pan's transition to a peace-time economy under American mili tary direction. Approximately 325,000 Japanese civilians are rebuild ing homes, towns and factories and slso constructing roads, air- fields and harbor installations for the U. S. occupation forces. The work Is under the direc tion ot Admiral J. D. Price, who this week took over as military governor. Ns Pay Given The Oklnawans are not re ceiving any pay from the Amer icans for this work. Instead, credits are entered on record books for future adjustments which will be applied to the cost of supplemental food and sup plies furnished the civilian population. The Oklnawans are rebuild ing with salvaged materials since the army will not furnish new constructing materials. Thus far, they have built a su gar mill, a tile factory and other small Industries in addi tion to rebuilding their homes and tjwns. Naha, the island's former me tropolis and capital, has been (aken over by the Americans ex clusively for military use along with Shuri and Machinato. These sites have been declared out of bounds to the native pop ulation, which has been forbid den to rebuild them. Japs Cleaned Up The Japanese on Okinawa cleaned up themselves, their homs and farms remarkably within the 90-day span since the American victory here at which time they were dirty, dazed rabble picking their way through the wreckage. These people are shorter and darker than the natives of Japan's four home islands and are looked down upon by Tokyo as country bumpkins. Many of California's Japanese farmers are natives of Okinawa.
