Last Tuesday night 23 members were guests of Mrs. William Gren bemer for a dinner held at the Grenbemer home, 23 Rose ave nut, and this week the Troop members will ride to the home of Dr. and Mrs. S. E. Philips Tuesday evening for dinner. Saturday a number of riders from both the Troop and the Sheriff's Posse went to Rose burg for the rodeo being held there this week-end by the Douglas County Sheriff's Posse and last week-end Troop mem bers rode in the Victory Rodeo given by the Posse here. Last Tuesday's meeting was given an unusually interesting turn by the appearance of six costumed men who had been riding that afternoon with the cast of "Canyon Passage." being filmed at Diamond Lake by Uni versal. In the group were four members of the Sheriff's Posse, Frank Cullen, Paul Bulkin. Tony Boltano and C. Lya'.l Fid ler, Jim Warren of the Ashland Riding association and Grant Withers, Hollywood movie ac tor. The men wore the boots, black felt hats and other cloth ing typical of the pioneer days of which the story deals and had been made up with pictur esque beards and sideburns in such a manner that friends and relatives -failed to recognize them. Walter Leverette and Mr. Grenbemer were also present during the evening. Troop members planning to ride from the stables to Big Boulder Ranch, the Philips' home, are asked to be at the stables and ready to leave at 6 p. m. Officer, Wife Honored Guests Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Moss, 516 South Ivy street, entertained re cently at a dinner party which honored Lt. and Mrs. Dallas S. Greer. Lt. Greer has been trans ferred from Camp White to Tule Lake, Calif., and Mrs. Greer has returned to the family home at Lenoir, North Carolina. Guests for the dinner, served on the lawn, were Lt. and Mrs. Greer, Col. and Mrs. Thomas Mc Cullough, Capt. and Mrs. H. C. Wood, Capt. Smith, also of Cleveland, in a double-ring cer emony in the Chapel of the Rocks and Roses Thursday eve ning, Sept. 13. The Rev. D. E. Millard read the ceremony. Miss Snyder wore a gray suit, with a corsage of pink gladioli and Mrs. Robert Dutton, matron-of-honor, wore a green suit with a corsage of peach colored gladi oli. Sgt. Robert H. Dutton was best man for the groom. Also present for the service were Staff Sgt. and Mrs. Glen J. Scott. Table Rock Club Holds Election At Last Meeting Table Rock Mrs. Vivian Pierce was named president of the Table Rock Ladies club at the September meeting held re cently at Mrs. Pierce's home. Mrs. Enma Sullinger, chair man of ths Red Cross work com mittee, reported that the club had made 270 mules. The group is now J.nitting squares for Red Cross afgtnns. Club "pals" were revealed and drawing for new names held. Refreshments were served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Dickey. Next meeting of the group will be held at the home of Mrs. O. T. Wilson in Central Point. Extension Unit To Hold Rally At Girls' Club A rally and installation of of ficers will mark the first meeting of the Medford Extension unit which has been scheduled for Wednesday at the Girls' Com munity club at 1:30 p. m. Mrs. Olive Floyd, president of the unit, states that an unusually in teresting program is being planned for the coming year and she urges anyone interested In home extension work to attend the meeting. As part of the state-wide pro gram, material of especial inter est to young mothers will be pre sented this fall and winter, Mrs. Floyd states, and In order that young mothers may avail them selves of the program a nursery for small children will be pro vided during the sessions. Students Leave For University Leaving today for Eugene to enter the University of Oregon for the fall term are Miss Margo Gammill, Miss Marilyn Wright, Miss Rhoda Williams and Lee Shafer, all of the Phoenix dis trict. Miss Gammill and Miss Williams will drive to Eugene with Miss Gammill's mother, Mrs. Miles Gammill, Route 1, while Miss Wright and young Shafer will motor up with Miss Wright's mother, Mrs. Mark Wright, Pacific Highway South. All four young people will be entering for their freshman year. The three young women grad uated from Medford high school while young Shafer is a grad uate of the Phoenix high school and resides on route 4. Ageei In East, Canada For Extended Journey Mr. and Mrs. Z. N. Agee, 518 South Oakdale avenue, left Med ford several days ago for an ex tended trip through the middle west and eastern states and into Canada. They planned to visit Chicago, Mishauaka, Ind., Tor onto, Montreal, St. Anne De Beaupre and Hamburg in Cana da and in the latter city will be present at the golden wedding anniversary celebration of cou sins. Smith Married Recently Gold Hill At a candlelight ceremony the evening of Sep tember 6 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Reinking, Jackson ville, Miss Dorna Maurita Mc lntyre, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Mclntyre of Jackson ville, became the bride of Joseph E. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Z. Smith of Gold Hill. The Rev. Lawrence Mitchelmore read the double ring service at an altar of gladioli and greenery. The bride's wedding costume was of turquoise blue with navy and white accessories and her corsage was of gardenias and yellow rosebuds. Mrs. A. E. Reinking, matron-ofhonor, wore a dress of flowered white organ dy and a corsage of pink rose buds. A. E. Reinking was best man for the groom. A reception for a few relatives and close friends followed the ceremony. Mr. Smith, BKR3c, reported to the naval base at Bremerton, Wash.. Sept. 11. Mrs. Smith will make her home with her parents in Jacksonville. Constitution Day Program Planned F or Chapter Meet A program on Constitution Day will feature the first fall meeting of Crater Lake chapter, Daughters of the American Revo lution, to be held the afternoon of September 22 at the home of Mrs. R. E. Green, 701 Park ave nue. A covered dish luncheon will be served at one o'clock with Mrs. R. M. Spencer and Mrs. O. E. G. Meyers assisting Mrs. Green. Constitution Day Is Sept. 17 and material pertinent to this historical anniversary will be presented under the direction of Mrs. Green. Members attending are asked to bring luncheon service. Wesleyan Guild Plans Meeting With "school time" as the pro gram theme, Wesleyan Service Guild of the Methodist church will hold the first meeting of the fall season Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Clarence A. Meeker, 724 East Jackson street. The program will be preceded by a "school lunch" picnic at 6 o'clock to which members are asked to bring a sack lunch, cof fee and dessert to be provided by the hostess. Mrs. Dorothy Waldron will have charge of the program. Mrs. E. C. Faber is president of the group. Circle Meeting Held Wednesday Laura Wicker was initiated as a social member of Chrysan themum circle, Neighbors of Woodcraft, at the regular ses sion Wednesday. The resigna tion of Cecilia Gustafson as captain of guards was announced and Sadie Gill was elected to succeed her. Next meeting of the circle will be Oct. 10 and a rummage sale was planned for Oct. 11. A watermelon "feed," with melons furnished by Charles and Flor ence Boussum, followed the meeting. Couple Will Return From Portland Visit Mr. and Mrs. Alfred S. V. Car penter, Old Stage Road, are ex pected to return to Medford this evening from Portland. Arriv ing soon from South San Francis co to visit the Cargenters will be their nephew, Dunbar, Mrs. Car penter and their small daughter. 8RCAD IS AT ITS BEST fOR TOASTING WHEN IT'S Bi-Counly Meet Held by Union Attracts Many Nearly 350 members of the Women's Christian Temperance Union attended the bi-county convention of the union held here Thursday, with the Med ford (roup as hostesses. Mrs. Mablo R. Lowther of Ashland, bi-county president, conducted the sessions which were held in the First Methodist church, and attended by women from Grants Pass. Ashland, Prospect and Medford. Memorial services were led by members of the Ashland Union and Mrs. Grant Thrasher, Grants Pass, gave the devotional message assisted by Mrs. Ander son, Prospect. Noon-tide pray er wn led by Mrs. Marietta Pratt of Grants Pass. Main speaker of the afternoon session was Mrs. Clarence A. Meeker. She deplored the in creased use of alcohol on the part of young people, due to the strain of war living, and indif ference to this spread of drink ing. The speaker stressed the need of religion in the home and for adjustment to peace-time life. Mrs. Wilkie, Grants Pass, gave the afternoon devotional message and Mrs. Thrasher gave a review of the book of Job. The Youth's Temperance coun cil of Grants Pass repeated iieir pledRe and told of their work under the leadership of Mrs. Anderson. Mrs. Bejle Littrell presented an offering as a memorial for her sisters. Miss Agnes Phillips, who passed away recently. It was announced that Mrs. Ruth Tooze, state union presi dent, will visit the bi-county union In November on her way home from the national union execulive meeting in Chicago. Grants Pass will entertain the bi-county convention next year. Phetteplace Family Leaves For Iowa City Dr. and Mrs. Glenn C. Phette place and son David left yester day for Iowa City, la., where young Phetteplace will enter his second year of pre-medical study at the University of Iowa. Dr. and Mrs. Phetteplace expect to return to Medford Oct. 15. Couple Arrives Here From British Columbia Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd B. Gore of Vancouver, B. C, arrived In Medford Wednesday and are spending several days as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Scott, 45 Glen Oak Court. Mrs. Gore and Mrs. Scott are sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Gore have visited here pre viously and have a number of friends in the city. MAIN Church Society Plans Luncheon For This Week Women's Missionary society of the Presbyterian church will take up the fall program with a one o'clock luncheon and meet ing at the church Tuesday. Mrs. C. W. Guches is president of the group this year. Tuesday's program will be in charge of Mrs. Roy Martin of Jacksonville and music will be provided by Mrs. Lucy Lyman, who will sing. Mrs. Lyman, who during her long residence In the valley has contributed to many musical programs, will be mak ing her farewell appearance since she leaves soon to reside in California with a daughter. Devotionals will be conducted by Mrs. Josephine Iverson and Mrs. Carl Brommer Is hostess chairman. Mrs. Guchos announces that a nursery for small children will be conducted. Three Entertain Sojourner's Club Hostesses for the meeting of Sojourners' club held Thursday at the Girls' Community club were Mrs. William Herron, Mrs. E. Clements and Mrs. C. Martin. Cards folrowed dessert. Mrs. Harry Stahl and Mrs. Bruce Stewart received prizes for pinochle, Mrs. Herschel Mor ris and Mrs. C. H. Voegtly for bridge and Mrs. Jack Eidswick won another prize. Mrs. Voegtly was a guest for the meeting. William Carlsons Here To Visit With Mother Mr. and Mrs. William Carlson left Monday to make their home in Alameda, Calif., after a visit here with Mrs. Carlson's mother, Mrs. George Lynch, 16 South Peach street. Mr. Carlson, re cently honorably discharged from the army, has become a Junior partner In the Bay City Auto Parts company. During the war, Mrs. Carlson had re sided In Portland. IS, 1945 Great Pocahontas California Lodge To Visit Medford To greet Avis Churchill, Great Pocahontas of the California Pocahontas lodge, a special meet ing of the Medford lodge has been called for Saturday, Sept. 22, at 7:30 p. m., lodge officials announced yesterday. Initiation wil be held and a large attend ance is expected. Following the special meeting members of the lodge will attend a dance being planned by the Redmen lodge.
